I'm so sick of people thinking that self released cd's are fraudulent "cdr's"
Most underground artists manufacture their own albums, and I have no idea as to why collectors have a problem with that.
Not every rapper -especially those on the underground have record deals, and if they are plugged with a record company it's not like they will just throw hundreds of thousands on production and manufacturing.

^^^ i think the main issue with conversions are that there's the ability to abuse em. Well that's on all the stakeholders for bein idiots. There's big chat about this right now swoop as you know. The fact that they're cdrs is always something to ask because we all know you might only get a 10 year ride outta the cd. Anyhoo, those conversions are still popular when advertised legitimately too and those ones look real nice i'm sure a lot of folk would like em in their stash.. Like someone mentioned about the ol RMG faculty, some of them do this sort of thing transparently too. Also, they get sold on by the winner a bit later; under the pretense of being OG's or a secret late 90's early 00's batch, some wild back story and that's the abuse part.

A lot of underground local artists from my area (not all but some) release their discs on CDR's, however it is usually their fist and second albums - once they get a record deal they release the album as a "real cd"... I usually buy direct from the artist or "mom and Pop" stores that carry the underground Chicago local stuff.... CD baby is the same way. Then again there are plenty of artists that spend the extra cash to print a legit cd.... I suppose it all comes down to the funding. Getting 1000 cds printed costs like 500-750 sealed, then you have the artwork and time it takes to sell them etc. CDR's are just cheaper if you're working with a small budget.
