49ers LG Mike Iupati has been diagnosed with a broken left fibula.
It's better news than was originally reported. Coach Jim Harbaugh previously said Iupati broke his ankle. The fibula is the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg. Iupati will not require surgery, suffered no ligament damage, and is expected to be back to full strength in eight weeks. He may not do much during spring workouts, but Iupati will be ready in plenty of time for training camp.

Profootballtalk reports 49ers ILB Navorro Bowman has been diagnosed with a torn left ACL and MCL.
Per a league source, the diagnosis was confirmed by a Monday MRI. The 49ers should release official word sometime this week. Although an MCL tear is a much smaller issue than an ACL tear, it will delay Bowman's operation. His MCL needs time to heal. Even were Bowman to go under the knife today, he'd be in a race against time to get cleared for Week 1. Now, he's a serious candidate to begin 2014 on the reserve/PUP list. It's a huge blow for the 2013 first-team All Pro, but he does have youth on his side. Bowman won't turn 26 until May. For what it's worth, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bowman is expected to be ready for Week 1. In reality, it's too early to have any sort of a grip on his return timeline.

Impending free agent C Jonathan Goodwin is "open" to re-signing with the 49ers.
Goodwin admitted retirement "crossed his mind" after turning 35 last month, but says he "wants to be a part of helping the 49ers experience a Super Bowl victory." It doesn't sound like he has any plans to hang up his cleats. Goodwin hasn't missed a game since 2008. He graded out as the No. 14 center in Pro Football Focus' ratings this season, but was a weak link in pass protection. The 49ers could look to get younger at center.

Impending free agent K Phil Dawson "absolutely" wants to re-sign with the 49ers.
Dawson expects the sides to begin talks "soon." One of the best kickers of the 21st century, Dawson turns 39 later this week, but was as good as ever in 2013. After spending the first 14 years of his career in Cleveland, Dawson converted 32-of-36 field-goal attempts for the 49ers, and went 7-of-7 in the postseason. He should be back in San Fran for 2014.

49ers CB Chris Culliver (torn left ACL) has resumed sprinting, and expects to participate in the team's offseason program.
"I'll be there every day," Culliver said of OTAs. "Ya'll come, you're going to see me. I'm there every day." Slated to be the 49ers' No. 3 cornerback, Culliver tore up his knee in the early days of camp. Barring a setback, he should be ready to go when San Francisco reports this July. Culliver will be in the mix for one of the 49ers' top three or four spots. Although Culliver's poor performance in Super Bowl XLVII sticks in the craw, he had a solid 2012.

49ers signed DE Lawrence Okoye and WR Devon Wylie to reserve/future contracts.
Once compared to Wes Welker by draftniks, Wylie is a former fourth-round pick of the Chiefs. Okoye is a major developmental prospect who was waived/injured last August by the 49ers. He is a former rugby player and track star.

49ers NT Ian Williams (broken ankle) expects to be 100 percent for the start of 2014 training camp.
Williams fractured the ankle in Week 2 after making his first career NFL start. Glenn Dorsey took over at nose tackle from there and performed admirably, especially in run defense. 24 years old and signed cheaply through 2015, Williams is likely to return as a rotational run stuffer, playing on early downs.

The Browns did "background work" on 49ers DL coach Jim Tomsula last week, and ESPN's Bill Williamson reports Tomsula "potentially could become a candidate" for Cleveland's head-coaching vacancy.
Tomsula received an interview for the Vikings' head-coaching job earlier in January, but wasn't a finalist. The Browns' coaching search seems to be going nowhere fast, with no candidate emerging from the crowd. Tomsula does have some head-coaching experience, serving as the Niners' interim head man for a single game after Mike Singletary's 2010 firing.

fuck that Gimypimp's Browns dont deserve OG Triple OG Jimmy Tomsula
