Boxing is a sport. The WBC been dicking Lara around for 2-3 years now. All it would take is the WBC to actually enforce their own rules. Lara has the best resume at 154 by far. He's due his shot.

Canelo isn't Mayweather either lol PPV? Angulo fight won't be a PPV.

But fuck it Lara and James Kirkland should fight eachother since they know damn well Floyd and Canelo aren't fighting either one.
Of course. In a perfect world, Lara would've gotten a bigger shot after beating Williams. It's the world we live in. WBC is a bunch of douchebags. Can't expect them to do the right thing.

I don't think Canelo is a PPV draw either but they seem to be sticking to their guns on making his next fights a PPV. Then again, they said that about Broner til there was no interest in seeing that card on PPV. That card was solid on paper even. Who knows man. I sure as hell wouldn't pay for that PPV.

Angulo aint no walk in the park, I don't know what yall talking about lol Lara barely beat him and got knocked on his ass hard twice in the fight! if the ref didn't stop it Angulo could of pulled it off. and he got a draw with vanes. lara should get in the ring with Andrade, im not sold on him yet and he would lose that fight imo. Im glad Angulo got the canelo fight, they should of been fought imo, Lara needs to wait his turn

What? The ref didnt stop the fight, Angulo quit lol. Lara fucked him up. Yea he got knocked down but was still winning the fight and beating Angulo's face in! He was beating Vanes before the draw. He would smash Andrade just like he would beat Canelo and thats why GB wont let Canelo fight him. Lara been waiting his turn and its long overdue! How the fuck can u justify Angulo getting the fight before Lara? The only possible way is because Canelo is coming off a loss and they want an easy matchup for him and thats what Angulo is. Canelo will ko him before the 5th round. Got Em!!

Why should Lara have to fight an up and comer in Andrade when Lara has already fought Molina, Paul Williams, Vanes, Angulo? Lol he's earned his shot he's been in title eliminaters for like three years now. If anything Angulo should fight Andrade. Lara vs Canelo. Or James Kirkland vs Canelo (he knocked out Angulo).

Yes I said Canelos fights were going to be on ppv no matter what cuz that's the contract GB gave him, 3 fights in 2014 all ppvs. The Trout fight was supposed to be on ppv too but they really couldn't back that one up since they weren't obligated to but now they are. Now, why not Canelo vs Angulo? trips @trips nailed it on the dot plus the WBC ain't dicking nobody cuz Canelo is not a champ no more and this isn't a title fight. Canelo can fight whoever he wants. Plus this is a fight that Mexican boxing fans have been wanting for years so what better way for Canelo to regain the respect from Mexican fans than by fighting Angulo. And Kirkland vs Lara won't happen cuz SMS has a contract with HBO. GO CHARGERS!

Brook and Thurman: The Future of the Welterweight Division.
January 7th, 2014 | Post Comment - 11 Comments
1Share 1 10Share 6Tweet

kell brook keith thurman By Olly Campbell: With a lack of any domestic action throughout January here in the UK, I have grown quite reflective over what has been and what is to come as far as the best of British are concerned. Tyson Fury, Carl Froch and Ricky Burns have all been subjected to my scrutiny as of late.

Today, however, I am turning my attentions to not just a British fighter, but an American one too. Two young, hungry and talented men who I believe are not only the future of the welterweight division, but who are also on something of a collision course for the future provided both their careers follow the paths their respective talents have them earmarked for. Those two men are Britain’s Kell Brook (31-0 21KOs) and Keith Thurman from the United States (22-0, 20KOs).

What I don’t want to do with this piece is get pulled in too many different directions. We all know the welterweight division is stacked with talent. Names like Marquez, Bradley, Maidana, Pacquiao, Alexander and Porter roll off the tongue without even having to think.

I would be foolish to discount some or all of the above when looking at Brook and Thurman and it is the recent scrap between two of them, Shawn Porter and Devon Alexander that I shall use as a segue into the bulk of this piece.

Here in England, this writer and IBF mandatory Brook were keeping a very close eye on this fight. The eventual winner surely Brooks next opponent. Unlike many in Britain I didn’t think this would be a cake walk for Alexander. A tough and durable fighter, it is pretty well known he is at his best against come forward, brawler types. I.e Maidana. As soon as Alexander comes up against real movement, he has problems. Which is why Amir Khan was throwing his name around so much and why I was praying Alexander would win. Kell Brook, with his movement, defence and slick skills is perfect for Devon Alexander. Oh, well!

Shawn Porter will get six months from the Alexander fight to face Brook in his first defense. The fight will almost certainly be Stateside which shouldn’t trouble Brook too much. In 2011 he destroyed Luis Galarza (W-TKO-5) in New Jersey. Whilst I see this being a tougher fight for Brook than Alexander, I still see him being victorious, probably via UD, although a late TKO is not impossible. Porter, despite not being tall is still a big welterweight having moved down from light middleweight some three years ago. He will be looking to make a statement and like many of the US fans, will make the mistake of underestimating Brooks vast skill set in my opinion. There is only one stain on Brooks resume, a MD victory against the average Carson Jones in 2012. After Jones, some say rightly, complained, he was given his rematch and brushed aside comprehensively a year later. Porter has neither the experience or the talent to overcome Kell Brook, and come late Spring, the UK will boast one more world champion.

Which brings me to Thurman. Let me start by saying I think the 25yr old Florida man is destined for big things in the sport. I call it the hype train, and with brutal honesty, Thurman is the face of the 2014 carriage, yet in his case it may be justified. Thurman seems to be doing things the right way, increasing opposition levels accordingly. His last two fights impressive victories of Diego Chaves (W-KO-10) and Andre Berto slayer Jesus Soto Karass (W-TKO-9) have led to him getting valuable rounds under his belt whilst still delivering the goods in brutal fashion. His 86% KO percentage is fearsome and the buzz surrounding him is growing with every fight.

Many readers, especially Americans, will have designs on what next for Thurman. Talk of him being a September opponent for Floyd Mayweather is however, ridiculous. I would like to see Thurman continue to step up and my next choice for him, given their past words, would be Paulie Malignaggi (33-5, 7KOs). Despite Malignaggi carrying about as much power as a blamanche, he is a fast and skillful fighter who could cause Thurman problems he would have to adjust to over the course of the fight. I would however see a mid rounds KO victory for Thurman being the likely result however.

Regardless of what I think, 2014 is set to be an exciting year for both Brook and Thurman. I welcome the thoughts of my fellow fans on what they see happening next for both of them. As I referenced at the start, when I gaze into my metaphorical crystal ball I see these two meeting down the line, perhaps (should all go well!) in Kell Brooks first defense of his IBF belt at the end of the year. The fight has all the makings of an absolute classic as far as I’m concerned, whatever happens to both, though unless it is a world title affair, it would lack commercial appeal for anyone other than a true boxing fan.

I could have written for ever about potential welterweight match ups and the names mentioned at the start, the divisions creme de la creme, though I shall leave that open to you to allow the comments to come alive with what they should…..healthy debate. Either way, and whatever your opinion, it is hard to deny both Keith Thurman and Kell Brook are two of boxing’s brightest stars and I look forward to the development of their respective careers with eager anticipation.

We might as well forget about Pacquiao and Mayweather because Pacquiao doesn't want it and never did. Mayweather said it years ago, why doesn't Pacquiao call him out?

Usually when someone calls Floyd out, he fights them.

Shane called Floyd out and got the fight.
Ortiz called Floyd out and got the fight.
Guerrero called Floyd out and got the fight.
Canelo.....

Pacquiao won't call him out because he doesn't want it. He always says "let's give the fans the fight they want" but he doesn't want it himself.

Just because he's under contract with Top Rank doesn't mean the fight can't be made. GBP has mentioned options....

Lol Mayweather specifically said he will NOT fight Pacquiao if he's with Top Rank. That is a demand from Mayweather.

Pacquiao wanted to meet with Floyd just recently, in Vegas, but Floyd said No if you're with Arum. Pacquiao then said his Top Rank contract expires at the end of this year and plans to meet with Mayweather in January 2015.

Golden Boy mentioned no options. Richard Schaefer just weeks ago said 100% no chance if Bob Arum is involved and the only way is if Pacquiao leaves Top Rank. Again, these are demands (outrageous ones at that).

Yea but these are very recent comments from Floyd. Like Tone said Manny has never called out Floyd period. Last year, two years ago etc.......He dont want it. Got Em!!
Pacquiao said numerous times he wanted to fight Floyd lol what is this myth? Tony has bad memory apparently.

During his interview Thursday on ESPN's First Take show, Pacquiao said he sees no problem with the drug-testing issue."No problem," Pacquiao said. "Whatever he wants to do. He can wear my trunks. I don’t care. I just want to get him in the ring and make the fight.” - 2012

"If I'm so easy (to beat), then fight me. Give the people the fight they want."

"He can beat me easily if he's going to fight me? Why doesn't he want to fight me if that's his thinking? Let's get it on, fight in the ring. Whatever you can say, my boxing career is done, then fight me, try."

Both of them called each other out numerous times. Floyd said "Manny Pacquio you're next." twice but then said he never said it. Pac called him out numerous times (refer to 206's post) but then after fights would say "talk to my manager" or some stupid shit.

However, I don't think any of the two are scared of each other but I do believe Floyd wanted the fight a bit more. Short of talkin about Manny's mom and kids, he did everything from a hype perspective to get it to happen. He also did what was required from a business perspective.

Floyd didn't want the fight, he wanted more of the money, more control. Manny knows he can't give too much to Floyd. Even if Manny leaves TR Floyd also stated Manny needs to sign to TMT first, a bigger rape move. GO CHARGERS!

The difference for me is like when Mosley, Ortiz, & Guerrero caled out Floyd they did it every chance they got and with confidence. They wouldnt do an interview without calling out Floyd. Manny even when he does say he wants the fight, he says it so nonchalantly and so soft and seems to only say it because he is being put on the spot. Big difference to me. Got Em!!
