Despite not needing your friends to play Tom Clancy’s The Division, you’ll still be required to always be connected online at all times.

This is somewhat surprising in light of the recent news of the Xbox One getting rid of the function, and the fact that Ubisoft are working on multiple open-world titles that don’t require an internet connection at all times.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Alain Corre, Executive Director at Ubisoft Europe, confirmed that both the Division and The Crew will be always-online titles. He went on to explain that the reasoning for The Division is that the world is like a living place.

The Division will be always-online, because this is how the game is designed. It’s a world that’s always on and always living. The fact you’re always-online is a must. It’s the same for The Crew. You can join your friends or not, but something is happening in this world all the time.

When you have freedom in a world – that can also have seamless multiplayer – that brings something new to the gamer, rather than having a scripted story. Freedom brings something unique.
There have been open-worlds before, but I think the feeling you have when you play an open-world is second to none. And now we’re pushing all of our creators to go in that direction.

Isn't it an MMO? Makes sense for it to always be online. You wouldn't expect to play World of Warcraft or Defiance offline. As long as the servers are fine and don't get fucked up like Diablo 3 or SimCity then it shouldn't be a problem.

The Division May be Delayed to 2015

The Division may be delayed until 2015 according to an anonymous source from Ubisoft Massive.

Speaking to GameReactor, the source claimed that while the recently-demonstrated Snowdrop Engine that powers the game is close to completion, only a sliver of the actual world has been built.

The game engine works well, it's not done, but works well. The actual game development has barely started, however," said the anonymous insider.

"The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It's a large project, and we have very far to go."

While unconfirmed, it's certainly possible that the title may have slipped to 2015 considering the fate that's befallen other Ubisoft titles. Last year, the publisher said that upcoming racer The Crew would release in the first quarter of 2014, with The Division following towards the end of the year. Since then though, a number of setbacks have occurred.

Firstly, Watch Dogs was delayed to the first part of 2014, then The Crew was pushed back to the second quarter of the year. While we still don't have a solid release date for The Crew, it would make sense for Ubisoft to want to leave a bit of a gap between launching its titles. This means that the earliest we could see The Division would be the tail end of the year or, as the source suggests, maybe not before 2015, especially as the PC version is planned to be far more than a simple port.

I haven't played the beta (is it available still?) but from what I've read and watched it looks pretty damn good. They need to learn to stop showing off uncompressed videos two years in advance though because when they inevitably scale it down its disappointing to fans (even though it still looks good), same shit with Watch Dogs. The other thing people need to get over is its an RPGish game so it's not "realistic" one shot head kills like say COD or whatever, it's more in tune with RPGs being that health will decreased based on armor, skills, etc.

Anyways, I guess what I'm waiting for is finding out just how much there is to do in this game because obviously with the beta there isn't a whole lot and it gets boring according to most people, so if there isn't a whole lot more to the game I'll pass. But if they're is a massive amount of shit yet to be seen I'll scoop it up. There are some cool ideas here and looks like it would be fun as fuck mobbing with a squad, very intense moments since you can lose all your shit if you don't make the drop offs, etc. The design in the game is overall pretty incredible. Watch Dogs was too but it never lived up to the hype and I wonder if this will be similar.

yup the beta is still available, i just downloaded it. it's pretty dope from what i've played.

the cover based gameplay will be a deal breaker to those people who like to go rambo. i noticed in this game that long range shootouts are not effective. so you will need to go from cover to cover in this game.

Well I figure the Rambo COD type fans won't like this game at all which imo is a good thing. I really can't stand playing those types of games anymore because the community is fucking awful, like the worst of the worst as far as gaming goes. So what I'm hoping is this is more about teamwork, and for the lone wolfs it's not always going to be a shit storm of death every encounter of random people. And lurking some of the division forums seems pretty encouraging, reading about people's experiences so far. So I'll remain skeptically optimistic. Again, I think there are some cool ideas here but none of that will matter if they listen too much to a vocal minority and start changing shit to please them or whatever.
