Why is that the alternative? WalMart doesn't pay them what they say they need, so taxpayers have to pick up the slack? At what point are individuals held accountable for their own decisions?
Well yeah we have been picking up their slack (their being businesses like Walmart), and in more way than one, for decades now where have you been?

if everyone got paid good wtf is the point of getting an education. I mean i hear ya, the pay is low, but why not do something for yourself to change it, make yourself a better candidate for work. Walmart doesnt force u to work there, there are other options, if you dont want to take the time to make yourself a better candidate for other jobs thats on you.

Not to mention, if everyone got paid "good" then "good" would no longer be "good" it would be "bad" hahaha.

Economics is much more complicated than "let's just pay everyone more money and then get together on a grassy knoll and sing kumbaya"

Paying people more money can make the cost of goods and service go up, increase inflation, weaken the dollar, and erode retirement savings just to name a few things.

but should they?

they are not in the business of caring for people, they sell commodities, they care about selling commodities, not people.

if I owned a company, my objective would be how much money can I make, in a legal fashion, without having a big ass overhead to take care of.

I worked at a Walmart when I was 18, do you know what I did when I finally thought to myself "this place sucks and I don't make enough money for this dumb shit"?

I quit....

hard concept apparently
A terribly hard concept when u live hours from anyone and have no-one to support u. When you're a grown up who has to pay rent and bills. If I could live off parents n Shit I woulda quit or refused it

Isn't that the problem!? Human beings should have a higher value than money. We should not treat others bad, just for a higher profit.

I assume you are against this practice. If so, I agree that the status quo is deeply flawed. IMO, Taxpayers and/or government should not prop up big biz nor individuals. Businesses should be allowed to fail and people allowed to starve. Government intervention only makes them all dependent at our expense.

Where did he say anything about treating people bad? If people voluntarily choose to do the work for an agreed upon fee, there's no wrongdoing there. Set your personal values however you please.

Real dialect. I've worked in healthcare for almost 10 years and can tell you with certainty that there is no such thing as being in the business of caring for people. Doctors, hospitals, clinics, ambulances, social workers, etc. It's all about selling a product or service. Some get paid by individuals and some get it from taxpayers but they all have to break even or go under.

446 billion sales and only 15.7 profit? thats not too great honestly, less than 4% growth. should they not profit at all? dont get me wrong, i hate walmart, but its not the governments role to step in. people want more and more control by the government, then complain about no freedom and the government being an all powerful fascist / socialist evil entity.

fuck it, lets just release a zombie super virus and start all over
Walmart has maintained very consistent revenue growth of 6.5% on average per year for the past seven years, which is strong revenue growth for a company of its size. You may not be comprehending how enormous a $15.7 billion profit is in that sector, needless to say it continues to grow. Its not the governments role to step in? The governments, both local and federal, play a big role in employment. Freedom for the people and the need for government regulations against corporations are two different subjects. The problem is that corporations and their lobbyists have tricked the people of the United States, into allowing the government to view corporations as a person without the same repercussions a real person faces when they violate the law.

By the way my employer (different sector) profits are $50+ billion / yr and they pay all of us the best wages and benefits in the industry and they have been ~flat for a couple years now but they still do it.

I believe that if people knew how they'd be treated and done dirty they wouldn't work there. They have my zone manager who's not salaried climbing ladders and doing Shit it would take a decently strength man to do.and she's almost 7.months pregnant. She's worked for.the company for 11.years and says it gets worse every year

It's simple supply and demand man. Walmart isn't manipulating the labor force, they are simply paying the going rate based on the supply of labor and the demand for it.

If the supply of labor went down, pay would go up.

If anyone is manipulating the labor force it starts with the government.
They are manipulating the labor as they are in control of the wages benefits and hours they provide to employees. especially a non-unionized labor force. All of the companies in my specific industry are in control of the wages benefits and hours they provide to their employees, my employer prefers to have the best talent in the industry by providing us 2-3 times greater than the competition. The only thing an employer is not in control of is federally and state mandated requirements, everything else is up to the employer, its board, and or its stakeholders.

Walmart's revenue compared to what they pay employees is completely irrelevant. Employee applied to Walmart and agreed to the wage presented upon hire plain and simple.

If they didn't like what was offered upon hire they could have left and applied elsewhere.

You don't get hired, accept a wage, then say "this is bullshit". People need to take accountability for their decision to take the job in the first place.
Have you ever heard of profit sharing, stock purchase plans, etc.? The execs get these types of benefits, so the revenue is not completely irrelevant. I receive these from my employer in my industry as well as other great benefits.

While, I do not disagree with your statement about the contracted agreement of wage accepted, that does not mean workers do not deserve cost of living and merit increases as well as have the right to strike or create a union for workers rights and a living wage. Without unions, no one in this country would have the worker rights they do have (that corporate lobbyists are always trying to remove), they were all fought for by unions. If you think employers just felt like taking care of their workers out of the kindness of their hearts you are sadly mistaken and I suggest you educate yourself on the matter.

Thank Unions:

realistically,... you work at walmart & your job aint that hard.

you are not on salary, so you will get time & a half if you do OT.

3rdly; take online classes if you want a better paying job. you knew the fuckin status quo before you applied there.

& D: not everyone is meant to make the same amount of money... ppl work their asses off to make good money, & chances are you didnt, because you work at walmart.

...not saying there isnt exceptions to this rule, but 99% of walmart workers ive seen are rude, dont wanna help anyone & are lazy.

dont like it? ....go elsewhere. This is walmart where we pay shit because you dont do shit.
