A.J. Griffin has been left off the A's ALDS roster.
Griffin was one of Oakland's most consistent and reliable starters this year, but he's been battling elbow tendinitis for the past couple weeks. The American League West champs will go with a rotation of Bartolo Colon, Sonny Gray, Jarrod Parker and Dan Straily against the Tigers.
i like Griffin but he led the majors in giving up home runs
Yoenis Cespedes (shoulder) will take batting practice Tuesday.
Cespedes continues to have issues with his right shoulder, but he said Tuesday that he expects to be in left field for Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday, even if he "has to throw the ball left-handed." It sounds like he may have to settle for being a DH, though.
John Jaso (concussion) doesn't expect to play for the Athletics during the postseason.
Jaso has been sidelined since late July with concussion symptoms and just began taking at-bats in instructional league games in recent days. The A's haven't ruled out his return at some point during the postseason, but he's not counting on it. "I don't have a position to play," said Jaso. "I'm not getting my hopes up."
