SHANE MOSLEY STILL WAITING ON MUNDINE OFFER, BUT WELCOMES AN OPPORTUNITY TO KO AMIR KHAN
By Ben Thompson | August 05, 2013
"If they're willing to put up Amir Khan, I mean, that would be kind of stupid for them to do that, but it would be nice. You have to have a chin to fight me. If you don't have a good chin, it's not good to fight me. I can punch, so you have to have a good chin...If they try to put Khan in there with me, Khan is going to get knocked out. I'm going to be the toughest fight that Amir Khan has ever been in. I'm telling you, he's gonna get knocked out...If they put anyone in the ring with me to try to get to Floyd, it's the wrong decision...You can't put him in the ring with me because I'm going to hit you on your chin. I'm still strong, I'm still fast, I still have punching power, and I'm getting better," stated future Hall of Famer "Sugar" Shane Mosley, who is still eyeing a potential October clash with Anthony Mundine, but would love an opportunity to knockout Amir Khan and derail any future plans for a Mayweather showdown. Check out what else he had to say!
BT: What's good, Shane? Any word on your next fight? I know Mundine recently came on the record saying they offered you $1.5 million to fight him. Is that the direction you're heading in?
SM: You know, me and J [Prince] talked about it and they offered it, so that's what we're going to take, you know what I'm saying. When they send over the contract with $1.5 million, like they said they did, then we're going to pack our suitcases up and go over there to Australia. They said Mundine signed already and I was going to sign, but I mean, they're not putting the money in escrow. They're acting funny with the money. He said he wanted to come down to 54 to fight me because it would be big in Australia, so I said put the money in escrow and we can get it on.
BT: I mean, if he wants the fight and they're saying $1.5 million is the offer, I don't understand what the hold up is then.
SM: Well, the money's not there; there's no money. I'm not going to take the gamble and fly out there for nothing. If they want to secure me to come out there, put the money in escrow and I'll come out there with no problems and give them everything I got. I don't understand it. I'll fight, but I'm not just going to fly out there without a guarantee.
BT: Yeah, that seems a little shady. Has Richard Schaefer, or anyone else from Golden Boy, asked you if you might be interested in fighting in Dubai by any chance?
SM: No. Nobody has said anything about Dubai. Why?
BT: Oh, I just heard some rumblings that the Alexander vs. Khan fight might not happen. Khan recently said he was looking at some other opponents, so I was just curious if anyone had contacted you.
SM: Oh yeah? Well that's nice. How much money (laughing)? Me and Bella just left Dubai, so I know what Dubai's all about. I've been there, so I know that they have a lot of money out there. I mean, it's cool; whatever. If they're willing to put up Amir Khan, I mean, that would be kind of stupid for them to do that, but it would be nice. You have to have a chin to fight me. If you don't have a good chin, it's not good to fight me. I can punch, so you have to have a good chin. If this fight with Mundine doesn't come off, that might be something to look at. You know I'm a 147-pounder, so I would love to fight at 47 versus fighting Mundine at 54. Hell, I'm at the gym at 54 now, so I would love that fight. I don't care who I fight at welterweight. I just want to get in the ring. I'll fight 4 times a year. I just want to start picking off people because they can't beat me. I have a couple more years of some good headbangin. Right now, I got so much energy; I'm just ready. I'm ready to fight.
BT: So if they did offer you a fight with Khan, you'd definitely take it?
SM: If they try to put Khan in there with me, Khan is going to get knocked out. I'm going to be the toughest fight that Amir Khan has ever been in. I'm telling you, he's gonna get knocked out. I'm knocking everybody out. I already wrecked their plans with Cano; he was supposed to get Adrien Broner next. Listen, I don't care who they put me in there with; just put me in the ring so I can knock somebody out. That's all I ask for. I was just going way out there to Australia to keep myself active, because I'm coming back for all the welterweights. Just put me in the ring; on Showtime, on HBO, I don't care which one it is. Just put me in the ring and let's have some fun; let's have a party. Put it this way, I'm calling out all the welters. Just tell me the name, give me the date, show me to the ring and let's get it on.
BT: Well, if they did offer you a fight with Khan, I'm guessing that they would like to showcase his hand speed to try and build up hype for a potential Mayweather fight and...
SM: (Cutting in) He doesn't have enough hand speed. If they put anyone in the ring with me to try to get to Floyd, it's the wrong decision. I don't care who you put in the ring with me, it's going to be the wrong decision for whoever. If you're trying to build a fighter, don't put them in the ring with me. If you want to see a great fight and you want to see somebody knocked out, put them in the ring with me. I'm training to knock people out.
BT: So as far as you're concerned, if they're looking to build up Mayweather's next opponent, they better keep whoever it is far away from you because you intent to wreck those plans.
SM: Like I said, they must not be trying to get that fight with Floyd if they're looking my way. If they're trying to get Amir Khan to fight for a title, then they need to put someone else in the ring with him because his chin is not the greatest. You can't put him in the ring with me because I'm going to hit you on your chin. I'm still strong, I'm still fast, I still have punching power, and I'm getting better. I'm doing the right things to make me better. I'm not doing things like an old fighter. I'm doing young things, so if that's what they want to do, I welcome it. Thank you. Just let me have the opportunity to fight Floyd next if that's what they're doing. Let the winner fight Floyd.
