So I watched my first game on tv, Tigers v Indians. Tigers won 5-1 away, enjoyed it. These guys are the local team so I'm gonna support them. I
I am going to my first game against the red sox next month.

So anyway I got a few questions brehs.

*do teams have 1 guy on the batting order who can come in whenever and hit? Like a special hitter when bases are loaded, your home run guy?

*do teams rest pitchers often?

*what is the significance of fielding on 1st, 2nd and 3rd base?

Cheers mates.

Batting order is permanent. Starting pitchers pitch once every five days. 2nd basement and short stops are usually slick fielders. 1st base and 3rd base are more known for their hitting but some are slick fielders also. Only other thing you need to know is Eric Hinske is the best player in the major leagues.

Teams usually have five starters that usually stay in that 1, 2, 3... rotation so they pitch every fifth game. Then there are middle relievers, late relievers, setup guy and closer. If the starting pitcher is doing good and the pitch count is low he can stay in so no middle reliever or late reliever is needed.

best way to learn is to just watch, baseball games are slow enough that you have time to take in what just happened before the next play happens.

So anyway I got a few questions brehs.

*do teams have 1 guy on the batting order who can come in whenever and hit? Tigers are in the American league so they have a DH (Designated Hitter, instead of the pitcher hitting like in the Nation League) Your homerun hitters are 3-5 in the batting line up. In your case with the Tigers, it would mostly focus on Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera (best hitter in baseball).

Like a special hitter when bases are loaded, your home run guy? See above for your homerun hitters

*do teams rest pitchers often? Pitcher typically pitch every 5th day. So they get 4 days of rest. They get a little more rest when there are off days in between games. Tigers have one of the best pitching rotations in baseball!

*what is the significance of fielding on 1st, 2nd and 3rd base? Defense is a big priority when you can't score many runs. With Cabrera at 3rd, and Fielder at 1st you can argue that the Tigers don't care much about defense because both aren't supreme defenders, although anyone would take them on their team in a heartbeat because of their hitting abilities. So those 2 players specifically are great hitters.

Cheers mates.
Glad you like baseball. It is a great game. I love baseball, always have. I am a Kansas City Royals fan so our teams will play eachother alot because we are in the same division.......American League Central!

Hope that all helps.

Namo, once you get a little more familiar you can start to appreciate the "games within the game" for example righty pitchers vs lefty hitters. Pitch counts/selection, hit n run, sacrifices and so on......

Baseball is an amazing game. I played for a long time at a pretty high level. If I body wasn't broken down I'd be playing somewhere right now! A lot of people think its too slow of a game, but I just think they just don't understand the game

Yeah it is amazing I am starting to see things more clear now. I love the fact that they dont go to commercial breaks every minute, they atleast wait for the innings to be over. Similar to cricket.

I like that they have games on all the time too.
