Hm, from what I've heard (I binge d/l'ed all their shit after I found this thread on Sunday), Black Zheep DZ is def. my favorite. However, I could see me thinking he was completely unnoteworthy if it wasn't for Jujuan/Butch's beats (DOPE.) and the B-more accent. I think Soduh actually stands out the most, followed by Dutch, but yeah, Platinum '93 goes hardest to me. I'll listen to this Butch Dawson tape first tho.
Regional sounds are dying out in general. All you need is the internet to know about you to blow up these days.
This is true, and sooo depressing. My biggest problem with hip hop right now isn't necessarily even the sound, but damn so many of these up-and-comers are using the same flow over nondistinguished beats. There's only a few cities left that are really bubbling their own insular sound.
