Darwin the Ikea monkey gets own online video game - Weird News - Digital Spy
Darwin the Ikea monkey is the star of a new online video game.
The stylish simian became a viral sensation last month when he was snapped wandering around a Toronto branch of Ikea wearing a fur coat.
Now Metro reports that the bizarre incident has inspired a group of programmers and artists to create a video game based on his adventures, where players can take control of Darwin and assist him on his quest to build an Ikea shelf.
Players have to collect bananas, throw faeces and avoid cars and shopping carts on their quest.
Programmer Barnabus Wornoff told The Toronto Sun: "Basically a bunch of artists wanted to see what we could do in a short amount of time with something that we found heartwarming and fun to play with."
Of the game's subsequent viral success, Wornoff said: 'It's pretty out of control. It's also pretty exciting to be on something that's trending like this."
Darwin's owner Yasmin Nakhuda is currently engaged in a custody battle with Canadian animal authorities, after Darwin was taken in by them following his escape. As a result, the monkey spent Christmas in a local animal shelter.
