Its the begining of the end. Its the natural part of boxing&mma. In either sports most fighters start out at a lighter weight then as their bodies grown to their man weight they are forced to move up divisions/classes. Then God willing they still carry over their speed, power and ability to take a punch. So as they go years into it they wear down. Sure they might be able to make weight but eventually they wear down mentally from absorbing so much punishment at a weight that wasn't their natural class to begin with. So the smart 1s cut weight n go back down if they can to be competitive. The foolish stay at or go higher in weight, suffer a devastating ko like that (face first fall and unconscious for minutes) and are NEVER the same. Either they r quick to get KO'd (ala Taylor), have fear in their eyes (ala Cotto) and quit emotionally (ala Judah), have trouble taking big shots (ala RJj) or end up adopting a Sugar Shane style of safety first.
I guarantee u Top Rank doesn't put Manny in with anyone who didn't start out at 135 or less from here on. Let's face it Manny's in and out n toe2toe style won out b/c of his speed n power but what really did it for him was he could take the other guys shot, whereas so many couldn't. Now that he's showing wear n tear he's faced with the improbable task of changing his style to account for what time will show as a weakening chin. Just ask Pavlik, Khan, Abraham, Berto, Ortiz, Morales etc how hard it is to have to keep in mind the limit of their chin when they can't easily out power someone who can throw some quality leather.
What to watch for:
1. Manny might be going thru the Tiger Woods/Tim Lincecum sports complex. This is usually characterized when a former womanizer or drug user or both is outted publicly about their personal ills. They have a total character implosion, give up the vices which somehow were connected to their mental well being and physical abilities, thus causing the athlete to become timid and insecure. Then they barely resemble the athelete they once were. We all know Manny gave up boozing, gambling and sexin cuz he got caught by his wife.
2. If he comes back all Tatted up after a trip to find himself he's 100% over. Every boxer who comes back with hella tatts after a loss is historically done.
3. If he ends up with Buddy McGirt as his new trainer, kiss his philipino ass goodbye.
4. If he comes out in his next fight using the Mayweather shoulder roll its really curtains.
