Massachusetts votes in favor of medical marijuana bill

Voters in Massachusetts overwhelmingly approved the measure to allow the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. In total, six states are considering marijuana initiatives.

"Now that this law has been passed, it will finally be legal and safe for myself and many others in the state to procure the medicine," Eric McCoy, 59, told the Boston Globe.

Colorado, Oregon and Washington are all weighing ballot initiatives, which would allow marijuana use for any individual over the age of 21. In addition to Massachusetts, Arkansas and Montana have medical marijuana initiatives on their ballots. Medical marijuana is already legal in Montana, but voters are deciding whether to restrict patient access in the state.

Those other state measures are still undecided, though voters appear ready to approve the majority of them.

NBC News reports that 17 states and the District of Columbia already have laws allowing for the medical use of marijuana, according to the National Council of Legislatures.

Washington becomes first state to legalize recreational marijuana
By Ramsey Cox - 11/07/12 12:40 AM ET

Washington became the first state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.

Possession of one ounce of marijuana will be legal for those over the age of 21 in the state as of Dec. 6. The Evergreen State will regulate and tax recreational marijuana sales at state-licensed retail shops, similar to state-run liquor stores.

Initial reports for The Seattle Times showed that 56 percent of voters approved of Initiative 502. Most of the support was from the urban areas of the state.

Those who campaigned for the initiative said the tax revenue would bring in at least hundreds of millions of dollars for the state.

Buyers could purchase one ounce of dried marijuana, one pound of marijuana-infused product, such as cookie, or 72 ounces of marijuana-infused liquids.

Colorado also had a ballot measure to legalize marijuana, and early polls showed a closer contest there.

Neither state measure addresses the federal ban on marijuana, setting up a potential court fight.

The measure also establishes a standard blood test limit for driving under the influence.

Its actually going to be interesting to watch and see how WA implements the law, which calls for state retail stores. However, the state liquor control board (which would also be in charge of weed) closed all its stores last year after we privatized liquor sales, so we really have no infrastructure at this point. I'ts also gonna be interesting to see how the license growers, which again, they at the moment don't have anyone to do the regulation. I'

This is the start of something....interesting. I can tell you right now, there is more to the law than people are seeing. For instance, driving while under the influence...how the FUCK will you test for that in terms of THC level? That shit stays in your system for over a week at times. Cmon now.

This is going to make a lot of weed sellers very angry.
