probably not worth your time. There were a couple really good scenes and one in particular that was genuinely creepy, but overall the movie was a big disappointment since the book I thought was really good.

japanese vampire action packed horror flick. theres this kid akira and his brother been missing for 2 years. then he finds out that heres in this mysterious island full of vampires, so akira and his friends goes there to find him. movie was pretty cool, i liked the action scenes n cgi blood showers, but at some points it was kinda boring and maybe 15-30 minutes too long. cut all the crappy drama bullshit and you got better movie 3/5

The book was so good the movie never stood a chance. I didn't like any of the changes they made. I did think the look of the movie was good though.

Haven't posted much lately but I've watched a ton of movies, this being the most recent. I'll probbaly get to some of the other ones that I feel were worth noting.

This seriocomic adaptation of Mordecai Richler's award-winning 1997 novel stars Paul Giamatti as Barney Panofsky, who meets the great love of his life, Miriam (Rosamund Pike), at the most inopportune time imaginable: his marriage to his second wife (Minnie Driver), a wealthy Jewish princess and compulsive shopper. Narrated by Barney as a confessional, the film covers 30 years of his unusual journey -- from his first marriage to the chronically unfaithful free spirit Clara (Rachelle Lefevre) and their life in Italy together, through his third marriage to Miriam, with whom he has two children. Standing in the wings is Barney's father, Izzy (Dustin Hoffman), who continues to stick by him as his loyal right-hand man. Through it all, Barney experiences numerous highs and lows, but manages to consistently surprise everyone with unforeseen acts of altruism and kindness that turn him into the quintessential modern hero.
I turned the television on to listen to something while getting ready for work and this movie was showing. It was about 10 minutes in and it was at a particular scene where Giamatti's character was sitting at a table outside with a few of his friends in Rome, Italy. They were smoking peculiar-looking cigars and ciggarettes and just bullshitting with each other. I don't know what it was but I stopped and was immediately drawn in. Thought about it while I was at work and when I came home and went right to finding it via on-demand (Starz).

To the point- However much I may praise this movie there is one thing you must take into account - it takes an aquired taste. There is little to no action, and tons of melodrama. The movie takes 30 years of the life of a alcoholic Jewish man (Paul Giamatti) and condenses it into just over two hours. And in this attempt I feel they triumphed. It follows him through his lifes endeavors all the way up to his impending death. You may or may not find his endeavors to be fascinating, but they do a fantastic job of depicting each event, ultimately removing the feeling that you are even watching a movie. The best way I can describe the film is to say that it is very, very interesting, and very emotional. It moves slowly almost throughout but for the most part you never really notice. The criticism is that the storyline, for the most part, is rather subpar. Again, it is the manner in which they were able to portray his life on film that is worthwhile, not necessarily the events. I don't know how else to describe it nor can I think of any similar films with which to compare it. Great acting, great cast, awesome ending, etc.

7.8/10 (iMDB: 7.3 - RT: 80%)

Wouldn't watch it again, pretty hokey and not particularly interesting. Cinematography was alright I guess. It felt like to make it reach a larger audience, they dumbed it down a lot more than his earlier work. 5/10
I realize it's all a matter of preference but I pretty much felt the opposite. Cinematography was outstanding and I felt the nature of the film was much more complex that some of his other works (never seen Pi). But I do understand why people might be turned away from it. You've gotta be more than just a fan of Aronofsky to really enjoy it.

The Skin I Live In

This is a movie from Spain starring Antonio Banderas. All I'm going to say is it had a pretty fucking crazy twist and it was worth the watch. 7.5/10
I've found myself staring at that poster on at least a half-dozen different occasions trying to get myself to watch it. never made it around. Might have to check it out. Thanks.

Wasted on the young

Bullied by the cool kids, Darren finds himself forced to act when his tormentors go too far by drugging and assaulting his best friend Xandrie, played by Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Pacific). After being left for dead in the middle of nowhere, Xandrie suddenly makes a surprise return to school that sets off a chain reaction of events, threatening to trigger the implosion of Zack's elitist, self-made pedestal. Soon, the brothers' lives are at the mercy of the opinions of their disenchanted classmates.
Altough movies like these are not my first choice, I thought it was a pretty decent movie eventhough it started of slow.

holy shit this movie was gay. about some over 40 year old friends who get together and get drunk/high every year. Was on some emo, mid-life crisis type shit. kept waiting for a plot twist, nothing ever came so I turned it off a bit past the mid way point. Maybe a decent flick if you're a 40 something year old man wondering why your life sucks, otherwise it's probably not for you. Didn't rate since I didn't finish (maybe the ending was amazing??)

Contagion

Matt Damon
Morpheus
Kate Winslet
Jude Law
Gwyneth Paltrow

Shit was alright. Obviously it's about a global deadly disease. Nothing too special, worth the watch I guess. Some good acting, plot wasn't too surprising. Not sure what else to say. 5.5/10.

just got done watching Warrior. i thought it was a great movie with very good acting and very believable fights (besides the slams). Nick Nolte stole it for me though. the scene where Tom Hardy throws his coins at him made me realize that Nolte might come away with best supporting actor from the Oscars this year. If you're a fan of fighting, dramas, great acting, great story then i recommend it. 9/10

also if you want to see this ignore the blu-ray cover of this movie since it ruins the ending.

I tried to watch it last night but turned it off after about ten minutes or so. I watched Arena instead..
Wasn't that good of a swap so I might give warrior another try.
