Singletary: There's trouble on the line
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/09/14/SP5C19N0TB.DTL
(09-14) 20:19 PDT -- One of the qualities the 49ers respect and appreciate about their head coach is his directness. When Mike Singletary says something, he means it. On Monday, he called out his offensive line.
I hope our GM took that shit to heart and personal. Instead of addressing the o-line in the draft, we pick Crabtree.................... what a great personnel move. Fuck giving the QB protection, let`s give him more options to throw to in hurry up situations. Yeah. That`ll work!

Fucking moron.

thats what we need the most but I also wanted us to draft a DE or Safety in the first round. Our Recievers did well last year considering.. A WR shouldn't of been our pick and look now how its turned out, even if he was here I bet Hill would still be getting sacked.

We got the future QB in Davis now, so lets get some pass protection for him in the future.

49ers co-owner Jed York has offered to meet face-to-face with unsigned first-round pick Michael Crabtree, but hasn't had his phone calls returned by Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker.
The Niners are willing, but Parker and Crabtree don't appear to be yet. At least it's a development; the sides have had little to no dialogue since the start of training camp 50 days ago. It's up to Crabtree whether he wants to play.

Before the draft, I wrote a blog on myspace about the upcoming 49er draft, going all 7 rounds. Knowing that games are won in the trenches, we have to focus on the lines. Neither were really addressed in my book.

I had us grabbing Oher to solidify the o-line or Tyson Jackson, a DE from LSU.

In the 2nd, I had Sean Smith from Utah. A big CB at 6`3", and coming from a very solid defensive squad, he would have been a huge addition to our defense. McCloughan didn`t see anyone on the board there worth the pick and decided to trade out.

Better safeties coming out this year, imo.

As of right now, this draft has turned out to be another failure. We have some solid players in Davis and Coffee, but fucked off the first two rounds. This dude still has a job how??????

The young Jed-i better sit his young ass down and stfu. Fuck trying to reach out to these fucks. Let them fuck off this year, if that`s what they want to do. He needs to make McCloughan sweep the parking lot at the stick and quit trying to rally everyone in the front office to cave into this prick. It`s the GM`s fault we`re in this mess in the first place.

Justin Smith needs to keep his motor going.

From Matt Maiocco's Blog:

"Niners defensive coordinator Greg Manusky was gushing over the play of defensive lineman Justin Smith, who played almost every snap in the opener. After the 49ers' coaches' film review, Smith was credited with 13 quarterback pressure and nine hits on Kurt Warner to go along with his one sack.

Said Manusky, "I've been in the league for a long time and I haven't seen a defensive lineman do what he did in all 20 years of playing and coaching. . . . I've never seen a guy play at that high a level for that amount of snaps and be as effective as he is. He had a good game."

When told of Manusky's remarks, Smith said wryly, "He's full of crap."

It seemed like our team actually used our defense, the 49ers have supposed to have a stout defense, for like 3-4 years now, even before we got p willis, with the best defense player in football on your team, we have no excuse not to have a good D, its like having a shitty O with Tom Brady, or Payton Manning.

This is funny:

After watching film review of the opener, 49ers coaches have credited DE Justin Smith with 13 quarterback pressures and nine hits on Kurt Warner to go along with a sack.
Said defensive coordinator Greg Manusky: "I've been in the league for a long time and I haven't seen a defensive lineman do what he did in all 20 years of playing and coaching ... I've never seen a guy play at that high a level for that amount of snaps and be as effective as he is." Answered Smith: "He's full of crap."

and

Tony Pashos, signed just over a week ago, is already pushing Adam Synder for the starting right tackle job.
Snyder admitted he needs to play better after being abused by Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett in the opener. It's just a matter of time before Pashos is replacing him in the starting lineup. He'll help Frank Gore in the running game.

49ers make statement against Seahawks
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/5372/49ers-make-statement-against-seahawks

Posted by ESPN.com's Mike Sando

SAN FRANCISCO -- The progress coach Mike Singletary and the San Francisco 49ers have made since their previous home game against the Seattle Seahawks shined through in so many ways Sunday.

Nowhere did it shine through brighter than on the scoreboard, but the significance of this 23-10 mauling went beyond the NFC West standings.

"I'm very thankful for coming out of the game and doing a decent job," Singletary said.

Decent?

In less than 11 months the 49ers have gone from borderline indecent, with Singletary pulling down his pants in the locker room midway through a 34-13 loss to the Seahawks, to whipping the britches off Seattle and finding fault in the execution.

"We have to do a better job than we did today," Singletary said. "They hung in there and they believed, but we just left too much on the table. We just have to finish."

X-rays and MRIs could determine whether the 49ers effectively finished the Seahawks.

Seattle has complained about bad luck with injuries recently, but it's not luck when the other team causes some of those injuries. That was certainly what happened when 49ers enforcer Patrick Willis blasted Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck in the ribs during a gutsy and fateful scramble right before halftime.

Hasselbeck got up, walked back toward the sideline, motioned for backup Seneca Wallace, then staggered and swayed as trainers rushed to his side. He did not return. X-rays on his injured ribs were negative, the team said, and a CT scan was inconclusive, although coach Jim Mora said he was optimistic.

For Willis, it was just another example of his physical dominance.

"At the end of the day, you want to do what is right for your team to win and [Hasselbeck] took a chance," Willis said. "He laid it out there for his team."

The Seahawks also lost left tackle Sean Locklear, middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu and cornerback Josh Wilson to injuries Sunday. Locklear was limping through the locker room after the game with a boot on his right lower leg, his prognosis uncertain.

Seattle was already without left tackle Walter Jones, receiver Deion Branch, defensive tackle Brandon Mebane, center Chris Spencer, linebacker Leroy Hill and cornerback Marcus Trufant. An injury also forced projected starting left guard Mike Wahle into retirement last month.

That's as many as 11 starters gone barely two weeks into the season. Games against the Bears, Colts, Jaguars and Cardinals separate Seattle from its Week 7 bye.

"It's a little overwhelming to try to overcome 10 starters out and we weren't able to get that done," Mora said. "I certainly don't want that to sound as an excuse. … We'll come back with resolve and play better next week."

The 49ers and Cardinals must like their chances within the division. Injured ribs can take weeks or months to heal. Hasselbeck will be playing through pain when he does return. If he cannot move well or put in the work needed to maintain his core muscles, might he become more vulnerable to aggravating old back injuries?

"He's doing much better," Mora said. "He's feeling much more comfortable. … We'll keep our fingers crossed."

With Hasselbeck and the Seahawks ailing, the 49ers almost perfectly followed the blueprint Singletary laid out for them from the beginning. I singled out six benchmarks:
Power running game. Frank Gore popped through repeated eight-man fronts and into the clear, setting career highs with 79- and 80-yard touchdown runs on his way to 207 yards rushing. Gore has two career 200-yard games, both against the Seahawks. The 49ers have built their offense around him and this was precisely what they wanted to see.
Efficient, mistake-free quarterbacking. Shaun Hill improved to 9-3 as the 49ers' starter. He finished with an 86.1 rating and no turnovers.
Physical play at linebacker. Willis set the tone on defense with his crushing hit on Hasselbeck.
Big plays at safety. The 49ers replaced Mark Roman with Dashon Goldson because they thought Goldson could provide needed playmaking. Goldson made an excellent play to pick off a pass. He appears to have the potential to become a very good player.
Downfield plays from the tight end. Vernon Davis was not perfect, but he caught passes for 15 and 17 yards. He kept his composure, again, which was important.
Aggressive play at corner. Nate Clements and Dre Bly in particular seemed to relish batting away passes. The 49ers' cornerbacks won at the ball repeatedly and led the Seahawks know about it. Hasselbeck was right when he called Bly perfectly suited for the nickel role.

The 49ers have much room for improvement. Singletary was right about that. Their problems at right tackle are exposing Hill to punishment. Their offensive line in general still has limitations. Opponents will play far better run defense than Seattle managed in this game. On defense, the 49ers' pass rush should have been more effective against an offensive line playing its third-string left tackle.

But the big-picture view shows the 49ers with a 2-0 record overall and in the division. They have won six of their last seven regular-season games under Singletary. They are tough and physical, just as Singletary has commanded them to be. They hit the Seahawks in the mouth and a lot of other places.

All things considered, they are pretty decent right now.

I'm so fucking thankful that the niners had the balls to fire Nolan(even tho it took longer than it should have) and give Singletary the chance he deserved. You can tell this organization is turning around big time.

49ers Accuse Jets Of Tampering With Crabtree

49ers Accuse Jets Of Tampering With Crabtree

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=tsn-ersaccusejetsoftampe&prov=tsn&type=lgns

The San Francisco 49ers have filed tampering charges against the Jets regarding receiver Michael Crabtree(notes), the New York Daily News reports.

Crabtree has been threatening to sit out the entire season and re-enter the draft in 2010. The 49ers believe the Jets contacted Crabtree’s agent, Eugene Parker, to let them know they’d be interested in trading for his rights or drafting him in 2010 with a better salary than the 49ers are offering, the Daily News reports.

The 49ers must either sign Crabtree by Nov. 19 or surrender his rights, putting him back in the draft pool for 2010.

Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum declined to comment Sunday. Teams can be fined and/or docked draft picks if they are found guilty of tampering.

The Denver Broncos recently expressed concerns that the Jets had tampered with receiver Brandon Marshall(notes), who had told the Broncos he wanted to be traded. However, the Broncos never filed formal charges against the Jets, and Marshall is back with Denver this season.

Other receivers whom the Jets have been interested in, according to the newspaper, are Plaxico Burress(notes) and Percy Harvin(notes), who went to the Vikings in the draft.

Crabtree and the 49ers have been mired in an acrimonious contract dispute. The team offered the 22-year-old from Texas Tech a five-year contract worth $20 million with a reported $16 million guaranteed. Crabtree, the No. 10 overall pick in April’s NFL draft, has been demanding that he get a deal similar to that of No. 7 pick Darrius Heyward-Bey(notes), who received a five-year deal from the Oakland Raiders worth $25 million with $19 million guaranteed.

Former 49ers great Jerry Rice said on Sunday that even if Crabtree and the 49ers were to reach a deal by the trade deadline, the young receiver probably wouldn’t do much good for the team this season.

"It's just unfortunate," Rice said on the field at Candlestick Park before Sunday's Seahawks-49ers game. "And it doesn't look like they're getting anywhere close to coming to an agreement. This guy's way behind, way behind. I'm talking the speed of the game, everything. If they brought him in right now, I don't think he's going to be ready to play."

ALSO IM STILL PISSED WE DIDN'T TAKE DESEAN JACKSON IN 08, IF WE TOOK HIM WE COULD HAVE PASSED ON CRABTREE AND TAKEN MICHAEL OHER THEN OUR OFFENSIVE LINE AND WR'S WOULD HAVE BEEN RAW
