Paul Williams, Goossen Respond To Margarito-Mosley
Below is a combined response from Paul "The Punisher" Williams and his promoter, Dan Goossen, with respect to the recent articles on BoxingScene.com by Robert Morales (found here) and Mark Vester (found here) - both of which have to do with the stalled negotiations for a potential January 24 bout between Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito.
Combined Response From Williams and Goossen
How could Shane or Richard Schaefer chase a fight with the loser of the bout to Paul Williams when Paul Williams is ready, willing and eager to prove, inside the ring, he is the best and toughest fighter at 147, 154 and 160 pounds and will oblige Shane in the first quarter of 2009?
Remember, Antonio Margarito lost to Paul Williams.
Remember, Antonio Margarito turned down $4 Million Dollars to have the opportunity to AVENGE his loss to Williams.
Remember, Bob Arum and Antonio Margarito, to this day, inform anyone who will listen and write about it that Floyd Mayweather turned down $8 Million Dollars to fight Margarito, who Bob was labeling at the time as, "the most avoided and feared fighter" in boxing.
Remember, Goossen Tutor Promotions paid Floyd Mayweather $8,000,001 to fight the linear world champion during this SAME period.
Remember, Floyd Mayweather didn't lose to Antonio Margarito in turning down an offer and the ability to avenge a loss he didn't have against Margarito, such as Margarito has with Williams.
Remember, Antonio Margarito has turned down millions of dollars and the ability to AVENGE his loss to Williams and if he receives anything less than what our offer was at the time, it should be noted EVERY time his name is reported moving toward that bout, as it was for Mayweather.
Remember, I've said many, many times: Shane Mosely has fought everyone and virtually every challenge placed in front of him. He is a true champion, period. At this stage of his career, whether he fought Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams, the stakes are high. But in fighting Williams he's continuing his legacy as a fighter that was willing to fight the fighters that other fighters were unwilling to fight.
Remember, when Shane lost to Vernon Forrest, the NEXT immediate bout he wanted was the rematch, for better or worse. And he made it happen. That is a true barometer of a real champion.
Remember, when Shane Mosely lost to Winky Wright, the NEXT immediate bout he wanted was the rematch, for better or worse. And he made it happen. That is a true barometer of a champion.
Remember, when Antonio Margarito lost to Paul Williams, the NEXT immediate bout, and the NEXT immediate bout and the NEXT immediate bout he didn't make it happen. All Antonio Margarito has done is turn down Millions of Dollars and the chance of AVENGING his loss!
Remember, November 29 at the state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, two world champions collide when "the most feared man in boxing," Paul Williams fights Verno Phillips on HBO.
Remember, in 2009 "The Punisher" vs. "Sugar Shane" has a very nice little ring to it, at ANY WEIGHT.
