One of South Carolina’s most gifted lyricists, MSC Jay is helping to redefine an entire
genre’s sound, as well as shine light on his hometown – Saint Helena Island. With a
population of roughly 8k, it didn’t take much for the multi-faceted star athlete
turned rapper to stand out. MSC Jay’s career ambitions were always centered on
sports and music. Destined for greatness no matter which path he chose, the artist in
him took over and he followed suit in pursuit of hip-hop fame.
Being that authenticity and storytelling is the cornerstone of the culture, the 23-year-old MC
has been setting the modern benchmark of success for his young counterparts for
years. He’s an avid student of the top-tier rap stars before him (Biggie, Jay Z, Lil
Wayne, Webbie, Boosie, Gucci, Jeezy) and also a businessman selling his own
branded merchandise. Making his dreams a reality, MSC Jay is next up with expertly
constructed rhymes and a charismatic appeal that will soon give him the
mainstream attention he deserves.
Growing up, when MSC Jay wasn’t on the field or court, he used his spare time to pen
raps. He sharpened his writing, performance and lyrical skills by watching the
videos of his favorite artists, carefully scrutinizing their every effort until he
formulated his own blueprint. As his confidence grew, Young Jay began recording in
studios and opened himself up to critique by letting qualified ears hear his work.
The pivotal moment in his life was when he received positive feedback, which drove
him to go harder in every aspect of his career. That meant producing more music,
but also investing into further perfecting his craft. As a result, MSC Jay released a
handful of mixtapes to test the market however his new project, Geechie Gospel EP,
is what he considers his debut.
Being born and raised on a sea island and in the south, the inventive entrepreneur is
inviting listeners to experience his culture on Geechie Gospel EP. His goal is to
introduce audiences to his brand of hip-hop from a back road perspective; paint a
picture of what’s going on in the dirt roads he comes from. From his distinct
southern dialect, to his radical metaphors and punch lines, MSC Jay is serving bars
along with his country grammar. “Mah Dawg” Remix fearing Moneybagg Yo is the
ambitious spitter’s newest single.. The content is not only universally relatable and
catchy, but the track offers a nice dichotomy between MSC Jay’s slow flow and the
record’s upbeat tempo.
MSC Jay is creating a lane that has no competition, something he has in common
with the legends of the industry. Crafting music that is designed to vibe and ride out
to, with a few club tracks sprinkled in for artistic balance, the street certified rapper
is positioning himself to put the reality back in rap.
