The rapper Benzino is well-known for his role on the hit TV show, “Love and Hip-Hop.” But now he is known even more widely for an unfortunate incident that took place this weekend. The rapper was part of a funeral procession for his mother on Route 3 in Duxbury, according to officials, when he was shot by his own nephew.
Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, was shot by Gai Scott, who is 36-years old. Benzino himself is 48-years old and was taken to South Shore Hospital to treat his injuries. Doctors say that it appears that he’s going to make it.
“There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott,” Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement.
The two men involved in the incident were headed to St. Peter’s Church in Plymouth for the funeral of Benzino’s mother and witnesses say that there were two cars covered in blood after the shooting.
“There was a hearse and a family car that carries the family,” said one woman to the New York Daily News.
“At some point when the cars were side by side, Gai Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by Raymond Scott,” the statement said.
