The first West Coast group signed to Def Jam was South Central Cartel in the early to mid 90s and they hit the charts hard with little to no promotion. But before that Prodeje, Havoc, LV, and others were already established. Also before Mobb Deep’s debut there were already rappers named Havoc & Prodeje and they were from the group South Central Cartel.
Prodeje of SCC was recently on the Murder Master Music Show and the West Coast veteran and former Def Jam Recording artist spoke on the early West Coast artists, his time at Def Jam, and how he would like to have a face to face meeting with Prodigy of Mobb Deep over an interview that Prodigy did to clear some things up about who had the names first.
Over all the interview was real dope and touched on everything from West Coast history to the current state of Hiphop!
