Nipsey Hussle’s memorial service will be held Thursday at the Staples Center, TMZreports. Admission tickets for the event will be sold through a to-be-determined website.
There was reportedly a meeting on Wednesday between Nipsey’s family and Staples Center to discuss the service. LAPD was also included in order to plan logistics and security for the event. With the Clippers’ final regular season game on Wednesday night, the venue needs to be turned around quickly for the next day.
The 21,000 seat venue has had events like this before: Michael Jackson’s memorial was held there at 2009.
Nipsey’s family was reportedly in the midst of planning a memorial service for a massive crowd, passing on venues that held only 2,000 seats to accommodate as many mourners as they can.
Nipsey was gunned down Sunday outside his Marathon Clothing store in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The alleged gunman, 29-year-old Eric Holder, has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Former O.J. Simpson prosecutor Chris Darden is representing Holder and has entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf.
