The trailer for Straight Outta Compton epitomized the cool, raw, wild nature of N.W.A. After hearing Eazy-E spitting the landmark lines of “Boyz-n-the-Hood” and seeing Dr. Dre speed his white Lamborghini through Los Angeles, the excitement level for the biopic reached the stratosphere.
For everyone not named MC Ren, at least. The trailers focus on the group’s three most famous members—Eazy, Dre, and Ice Cube—and so far noticeably exclude Ren and DJ Yella, two of N.W.A’s original members. Even though Ren, Yella, and maybe Dre will join Cube at the end of the month for the BET Experience, Ren took exception that his facsimile – played by Aldis Hodge (Leverage) – was excluded, and blasted the film on Twitter.
Man fuck these bitches at universal pictures leaving me out the movie trailers tryin to rewrite history.
