Straight Outta Compton isn’t out until Aug. 14, but that doesn’t deter excitement. Some of N.W.A—Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and maybe Dr. Dre—will band together for a reunion performance before the BET Awards on June 27. Naturally, each of the five original members will be in the film. And we know versions Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Suge Knight will pop up in the film, too.
We also now know that the era’s preeminent West Coast rapper, Tupac, will be in Straight Outta Compton, EW has confirmed. Ice Cube posted an Instagram photo on what would have been the late rapper’s 44th birthday Tuesday, mentioning “the Tupac scene” was being filmed that day. But it was vague regarding if someone playing the rapper would actually appear:
A Universal spokesperson tells EW that Shakur will be played by actor Marcc Rose, who shares a very strong physical resemblance to Makaveli, as seen below.
The extent of Rose’s involvement in Straight Outta Compton is currently unknown. However, despite rumors, he is not currently attached to Carl Franklin’s Tupac biopic, his rep tells EW.
