Los Angeles, CA – Monday, March 14th, 2016 – HipHopDX‘s Trent Clark caught up with LL Cool J midst a late night studio session to get the inside scoop on how his recent Dr. Dre session came about–the very session which birthed an invigorating verse LL states only took fifteen minutes to write.
“Basically my man DJ Pooh had called me up and said Dre was trying to link, you know, just have me come by the [Beats 1] show and say what up, etcetera, etcetera… I just went to hang out, maybe talk and vibe and next thing you know, one thing led to another and we’re talking Hip Hop and Dre says “Maybe you do a drop or something,” and I’m like, ‘A drop? F*ck that!’ and then The Good Doctor went and got his laptop and the rest is history,” recalled the hip-hop veteran with a hearty laugh.
“I just love this culture and I love Hip Hop. It’s just ingrained in my DNA. I’m addicted to it and there’s no way out for me. It doesn’t matter what I do or where I go or what money I make or celebrity—none of that. Nothing ever compares to being in that booth and being on that mic.”
