Among the numerous topics KXNG Crookeddiscussed during an interview with Blurred Culturewas the impact the city of Long Beach, California has had on Hip Hop. The West Coast wordsmith compared Long Beach to that of a borough and questioned why the city doesn’t get the recognition it deserves despite fostering artists like Warren G, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg.
He later recalled reading one of Russell Simmons’ books and coming across a part of the book in which the Def Jam Records co-founder revealed that Warren G helped save Def Jam. Crooked later declared that he’s the one to “put Long Beach in its proper place in Hip Hop.”
“Long Beach to me is a staple in Hip Hop…In Hip Hop we’re gonna give back credit to Queens before we do to Long Beach,” KXNG Crooked said. “And that’s what I’m saying. We gotta put Long Beach in its proper place in Hip Hop. And I’m here to do that. I’m not even tripping on that…I read the book on the airplane to JFK. I read Russell’s book. Where he expressed in the book that Warren saved Def Jam. And that’s crazy that a West Coast artist saved Def Jam.”
