One of the most-impressive new rappers is Kendrick Lamar, as he represents the overall change in hip hop. Critics wanting lyrics to return to hip hop felt a New York-area rapper would bring hip hop back. Instead, it was Los Angeles, specifically Compton, that brought lyrics back to the game.
Growing up in Compton, Kendrick Lamar has the perfect inspiration for his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Impressive about the album was how Kendrick Lamar lived up to the title and still became a major rap star from Compton. But, of course, this could have been a very different story.
This morning, Kendrick Lamar woke up with “Santillian and the Wild Out Wake-Up Show” and he talked about his journey. Compton is full of temptations and the street life depicted by Eazy-E, Ice Cube, and Game. But, Kendrick Lamar explained how he avoided this life and dominated with music.
