Bahamian-born artist Jay Shephard releases uplifting and motivating dancehall anthem, “Real One.” He artfully blends the best aspects of reggae, dancehall, and pop to create his own unique sound. Full of optimism, inspiration, and shared personal experiences the track aligns perfectly with Jay Shephard’s overarching goal of leading others. With the influence of his music, he strives to guide his listeners through life like a flock.
Born Jamaal Saunders, Jay Shephard selected his artist name with the goal to positively influence other people and be a voice for those who lack one. He hopes that his music can be a vehicle of change that can transform the lives of those who are struggling and in need of a miracle. Jay Shephard makes an effort to release strictly relatable sounds, so that those encountering roadblocks, daily stresses, and emotional turmoil will know that they are not alone.
In addition to doing good works through his music, Jay Shephard founded the Jay Shephard Foundation in 2004 to provide less fortunate children with school supplies.
Jay Shephard was interested in music from age 6, and fell in love with hip-hop at age 12, but never seriously pursued music until much later. In 2003, he almost lost his life to gun violence when he was shot in the face at point black range. He lost his left eye, but shortly after the incident, he had a spiritual encounter and was gifted with a voice, and thus, a purpose. He decided to pursue a music career and in 2010 he earned a bachelor’s degree in popular music.
Jay Shephard has been hard at work releasing music, including recent single “No Surrender.” He is currently crafting a new EP, Good Vibes Nation and a full-length album titled Gemini. Much of his music has a reggae-dancehall vibe, drawing inspiration from legends like Bone Thugs and Bob Marley.
When Jay Shephard isn’t in the studio crafting eclectic, genre-crossing tracks, you will find him spending time with his daughter.
