I recently had the chance to welcome Ex-NWA stage and production manager Gary Ballen back on the Murder Master Music Show. Gary was the cousin of the late Jerry Heller and also served as his assistant at Ruthless Records so he got to see many legendary things both positive and negative. On the show he described the time when Eazy-E had to put hands on a 300lbs man who got out of line at a video shoot.
“I loved Eazy and I loved working for Eazy! He was short but stocky! He could stand still and do a back flip and land on his feet. His upper body strength was amazing! I saw him knock some guy out at a video shoot. Some big dude was getting in the way at a Michel’le video shoot and Eazy walked up to a 250-300lbs guy and Eazy knocked him out with one punch. Eazy was bad like that but he was also funny, quiet and kind of shy. He liked to spend money and was very generous! He use to give me weed when I needed it which was very nice,”
Also on the show Gary recalls a time when Suge Knight stormed into his office at Ruthless and breaks down how Ruthless hired an Ex-Israeli soldier to deal with Suge’s antics
“Suge came by and started threatening Jerry and myself and then Jerry brought in Mike Klein to deal with Suge, which he did very well. All the threats stopped after that but one day Suge walked into my office and closed the door behind him and said “You’ve been disrespecting Dr. Dre and Michell’le and I want you to sign a note saying your never gonna do it again!.” That was the first time I ever backed down from anyone in my life. He had a gun down the front of his pants and Suge Knight and he was pretty big and menacing at that time.
Ruthless’s answer for Suge in the form of an ex Israeli Soldier Mike Klein
“The first time I ever saw Mike Klein it was a picture of him holding up two severed heads. He was one of those crazy Israeli army guys and when I met him he had a real strong crew of guys who worked for him and they became our bodyguards. Him and Eazy got to be real close because Eazy liked that Rambo mentality and Klein was an expert at everything whether it was Karate, fighting or anything”.
Ruthless Security head threatened Suge
Once he threatened Suge then everything was all over. The first thing I heard was he told Suge if he ever comes back he would chop him up and put him in dumpsters all over the city and the second thing I heard was he told Suge if he ever comes to the office uninvited again he would leave in a box.
