Despite their long standing feud, Dame Dash says he has only positive things to say about his old business partner, and friend, Jay-Z.
Jay-Z is not only one of the most powerful men in hip hop, but a case can be made that he is one of the most influential people in America – as evidenced by him performing for President Obama’s campaign yesterday in Ohio. Dame Dash was one of the creators of Roc-A-Fella records along with Jay-Z and there was a time when the two seemed inseparable. They have been on not-so-great terms the past few years, but Dame says that he has nothing but “positive things to say” about Jigga, and talks about how he has changed as a person from his days with Roc-A-Fella.
The economy is one of the reasons he has changed, as Damon Dash says he can’t make money the same way he did in the past. In an interview with Global Grind he said, “The economy collapsed, so what I was doing before, I definitely can’t do now…I’m a completely different person in my 40s than I was in my 20s.” He adds that he’s changed more than just his business practices, “Back then, I was insecure, I was out because I was worried about people knowing what I was doing…a true business person is not meant to be in front of the camera.” When asked if he missed the rap game, he responded, “hell no!”
Contrary to what some may think, despite their falling out, Dash has nothing but good things to say about his one time partner, “Look at Jay-Z, look at Kanye, every success they have I’m proud of…I have nothing but positive things to say about him [Jay-Z]…all we did was make a company together, and sold a company and went and went and did other businesses.”
On a professional level Dame has no problem speaking fondly of Jay-Z, but when asked on a more personal level, he did not want to delve into their broken friendship. Adding more positivity, he only looks fondly on his past ventures with Sean Carter, “The business we did, we all made a lot of money, all good…what you may want to ask is about the friendship, and that’s more personal,” and then stated, “we created one of the biggest movements, independently of all-time.”
