Just a few weeks ago, Compton rapper YG Hootie dropped his single “The City” featuring Kendrick Lamar. Today, November 25 (Black Friday) – YG Hootie releases his new 13 track project HUBRIS. With such a strong and unusual title for a rap album, YG Hootie gives the description of the album title –
“Hubris is an ancient Greek term related to having too much pride, or ego; Being defiant to GOD; Arrogance & conceit – something we see in everyday life that as of lately is becoming more & more detrimental to society”
The album is a keen glimpse into YG Hootie’s mental. An artist who has grown and matured thru life experiences. Throughout the project, YG Hootie tackles subjects from Religion, Love, Life (December), Racism, the Prison Industrial System (Anger) and the thin line of Friend’s and Foe’s (Alter).
The project is refreshing, to say the least, full of socially responsible commentary which is much needed in today’s world of turn-up, mumble rap & drug infused music..
Finally a voice for the inner-city and beyond…
