Los Angeles, CA – Monday, April 4th, 2016 – Goapele, which means “to move forward” in Setswana, has been doing just that, moving forward and making her presence felt in the music industry as a chart-topping American soul and R&B singer/songwriter. Born in Oakland, CA, Goapele grew up in a socially conscious and politically active family. Her mother married South African political exile Douglas Mohlabane while studying in Nairobi, Kenya. Goapele led anti-racism and anti-sexism initiatives throughout her youth, and is today renowned as a leading artist-activist.
We are excited to announce that Goapele will join Black Alliance for Just Immigration as special guest performer at the 10th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, April 9th in Los Angeles! Goapele debuted her musical talent with the smash hit self-released album Closer in 2001, which reached #63 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Her latest album Strong As Glass is available now and we are incredibly excited to have Goapele as part of BAJI‘s celebration. Don’t miss an unforgettable night of music, cuisine, dance and CULTURE.
Goapele will be joined by DJ Rashida, Bryonn Bain, and more. Get your gala tickets now.
