Global Exchange is an international human rights organization based in San Francisco that builds alliances between the people of the United States and their counterparts in other countries. Since our founding in 1988, Global Exchange has provided support for and built international solidarity with grassroots movements for peace, sustainable development, corporate responsibility and fair trade around the world. GX programs include Reality Tours to developing countries, retail stores that promote Fair Trade, public education resources, speaking tours, and promoting sustainable development in Cuba. Our campaigns for democracy, labor, and human rights focus on Mexico, Palestine, Colombia, and Brazil. We also organize for a democratic global economy against the IMF/World Bank/WTO/NAFTA, against human rights abuses of US corporations, and to promote a Fair Trade alternative.

In 1994, following the eruption of hostilities between dissident Indigenous communities and the Mexican government, Global Exchange established a permanent international presence in the southernmost Mexican state of Chiapas. For the past seven years we have worked to bring international attention to the struggle of Chiapas’ majority Indigenous population and address the political, social and environmental foundations of the conflict. The Global Exchange Mexico City office opened in January 1999 in order to widen the scope of our human rights and democracy programs. Since then, the office has expanded its program work to include economic issues around free trade as well as the role of the Mexican military and US military aid.

We are currently seeking candidates for positions in our Chiapas and Mexico City offices to support and expand the specific goals of each office. Please note both of these positions are voluntary and funding may be available after the first six months for stipends. In the case of the Mexico City Office Assistant position, housing is provided.
