The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Suns and Warriors agreed on a pre-draft deal in principle that would have sent Amare Stoudemire to GSW for Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli and No. 7 pick Stephen Curry.
The Suns believed the Warriors were drafting Curry for them, although the deal couldn't be finalized until July 8 because of Biedrins' contract. Amare's contract extension also still needs to be finalized with the Warriors. But Golden State is now acting as if they always planned on drafting Curry for themselves and may be backing out of the non-binding agreement. The trade could still happen, but the ball is in the Warriors' court and it feels like they want to keep Curry.

ACCORDING TO MATT STEINMETZ: "CURRY IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE"

There's still a lot we don't know about the Stephen Curry/Warriors/Suns thing. But one thing we do know is that Warriors general manager Larry Riley and coach Don Nelson are saying in no uncertain terms: Curry ain't going anywhere.

The Warriors continue to staunchly maintain that they did not select Curry to be part of a future deal for Amar'e Stoudemire. And it was tough not to believe them on Friday afternoon, as they went about the process of introducing Curry to the Bay Area media – in front of Curry's mom, dad, girlfriend, family and even more than a dozen kids from a local youth group.

If the Warriors are lying, they're surely going above and beyond at this point.

Said Nelson: "We are not trading him."

Said Riley: "We did draft him to play here, I'll tell you that."

Meanwhile, in Phoenix, apparently there's no deal for Stoudemire if it doesn't include Curry. At least that's where things seem to be right now. But how they got to this point is less clear.

One thing we do know is that the Warriors have liked Curry for a long time, as far back as last season. "We had a target on him," was how Riley described it.

Riley also said that in the days leading up to the draft, there was some uncertainty as to whether or not Curry would last until the No. 7 pick. Riley said at first the Warriors thought Curry would be there, then earlier this week they thought he wouldn't and then around midweek thought once again that Curry might be.

It seems entirely possible the Warriors and Suns were in dialogue around the time Golden State didn't think it had a shot at Curry. And if the Warriors didn't think Curry would be there at No. 7, then there was really no issue in moving the pick to Phoenix in a deal for Stoudemire.

to follow the blazers recipe for success.. we need to get lucky in the lottery.....
you mean luck like we had in 2006 when we had the worst record and we got the 4th pick (worst pick we coulda got)? that was the year we got the top 2 players in the draft but it wasnt luck, it was competent management. yall still need that.

it was luck that that picked turned into lamarcus alridge and not tyrus thomas or someone else. your lucky alridge didnt bust cus he had a label of soft coming out the draft.

Trippin...Curry is gonna be on some Reggie Miller shit, watch.
That's what I'm saying

I've loved Curry since the 08 tournament and think he'll actually be a bad mother fucker in a couple years. The fact is, is that he's a shooter and every team has room for a pure shooter.

Side Note: How perfect would he be for the Cav's? They'd be a 70+ win team for sure.
