After concerned family and friends called the Tennessee Titans and Nashville police were asked to search for Vince Young, you have to wonder whether or not VY really wants to play football. After all, he was the one who admitted in the offseason he had considered retirement…and now his mother, Felicia Young says she’s not sure he wants to play either, quote: “What would you think, if you were tired of being ridiculed and persecuted and talked about and not being treated very well, what would you do? What kind of decision would you make?”
What would I do? I’d suck it up and play through it. Because I would know that’s exactly what I signed up for…to be ridiculed, persecuted and treated like garbage if I didn’t play well. That’s the gig…and if you can’t deal with that, and so far VY hasn’t proven he can. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be threatening to quit and disappearing every time adversity hits…maybe he should find another line of work.
You’re an NFL quarterback…you’re the face of that entire franchise…you have to be the single toughest guy physically and mentally on the field. You can’t go into ‘Operation Shutdown’ the first time things don’t go your way. You can’t just refuse to re-enter games when you realize you can’t ‘out-athlete’ a league full of athletes…when you realize the Rose Bowl game plan doesn’t work on Sundays. Felicia Young insists her son will be fine, if people would just get off him, quote: “He will be fine if people are prayerful and help my baby boy out. He is a young man. He just needs a lot of love and support.”
Actually, he doesn’t need our prayers…he needs to man up. He doesn’t need our love and support…he needs a kick in the backside. It’s a man’s game and right now, Vince Young just doesn’t look mentally tough enough to handle the rigors of being a franchise QB in the NFL.
