I’m not going to lie to you and tell you that I have even faintest idea who Brotha Lynch Hung is. All I know is that he’s a rapper from Sacramento who doesn’t have a clue. And to be honest, if it hadn’t been for a community activist in Los Angeles who approached me at this past Saturday’s Roundtable with a copy of Murder Dog Magazine, I still wouldn’t know who Brotha Lynch Hung is. But he did and now I do, so it’s on…
The photo above speaks volumes about the issues we have as Black people and how anything (and I mean anything) can be exploited for a dollar.
According to published reports, Brotha Lynch Hung was born Kevin Mann in 1970. He is allegedly a prominent Sacramento rapper who is adored by his fans for his use of highly violent lyrics. Lynch has released over 20 albums in his 15 year career. Lynch brought us such classics as Rest in Piss (1994), Trigganometry (2001), and Lynch by Inch: Suicide Note (2003). His latest endeavor, Spyderman, dropped online this year.
Apparently, Brotha Lynch Hung has got a thing for nooses. So much so, that he posed with one for his Murder Dog Magazine shoot. See above.
Once more…there is nothing funny about a noose and especially when it’s around the neck of a Black person. Have we forgotten that countless numbers of Blacks, mostly men accused of raping white women, died by the noose? The practice of lynching destroyed many Black families and left a scar that most of will carry for the rest of our lives.
What’s scary is that Brotha Lynch has over 51,000 friends on Myspace. 51,000!!! And his music is available on iTunes.com.
Even more scarier?
According to his interview in Murder Dog Magazine, Lynch was going to call it quits and take his daughter to the mountains and fish for the rest of his life smoking blunts.
But his plans have changed.
“Now I’m going to go ahead and build this studio out here in Sacramento and help my two daughters get started.”
“She sings and she is on some stuff that Zagg did. I don’t know when that will release but it will be on Hot One Records.”
“It is amazing that she is only eight years old doing this!”

I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that Brotha Lynch Hung embraces the use of nooses for his own self-promotion, that he has children that actively participate in the production of his music, his lyrics and subject matter, or that there is a Brotha Lynch Hung in the first damn place. I mean really, Brotha Lynch Hung?
