Seattle Seahawks fans will try to set world record for loudest stadium on Sunday
Seattle Seahawks fans like to fancy themselves as the loudest fans in the world, and on Sunday they'll try to make it official.
Not that the Seahawks crowd needed much prodding to get noisy with NFC West rival San Francisco coming to town for an incredible Sunday night game, but a fan group is bringing in a Guinness Book of World Records official to measure the crowd noise. They want to set the world record for loudest roar.
The Associated Press reported that the fan group Volume 12, led by former NFL defensive end Joe Tafoya, is organizing the attempt to break the record for ''loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium." That record was set in 2011 in Turkey at the Ali Sami Yen Sport Complex Turk Telekom Arena during a soccer match between Galatasaray SC and Fenerbahce.
The team won't announce the attempt during the game, but the group is urging fans to go for the record when the 49ers take their first possession. Shouldn't be a problem getting them fired up for that.
The record at that Turkey soccer game was 131.76 decibels. Bring your earplugs, Colin Kaepernick.
''I've played in about every NFL stadium. I played for the Cardinals, the Bears, I had a chance to travel, CenturyLink was by far and away the loudest,'' Tafoya told AP. ''The noise, it almost seems like it turns into energy.''
Given the intensity of the game and the reputation of the Seahawks fans for making noise, you have to think they have a chance to break the record. If you're at home, you might want to turn down your television volume the first time San Francisco's offense takes the field.
