I think LeBrons goin back to Cleveland. That's why he opted out before the draft. He didn't have to opt out til the 30th.
I disagree. If you're a superstar and a prima donna, that's the way to go. Opt out basically as early as possible. ESPN has not stopped talking about him since. NBA fans have not stopped speculating about what he'll do. He could end up just going back to the Heat for the same money he got before, but the world stopped talking about the Spurs damn near and they're talking about Lebron and what he might do. Couldn't beat them in the Finals but he's beating them with publicity.

I dont give a fuck what ESPN thinks or does lol.... We just got our 5th ring and are 2-1 against LeCramp James! We should have gotten game 6 last year but choked in the closing seconds so I will give him that one.... But in the future his record in the finals is what will count! His bitch ass will never take away from our championship

I don't agree with it either, but tell me that's not how Lebron James is? It's the same thing with AROD. He broke a league rule by opting out of his contract a few years ago DURING the World Series. But as soon as the World Series was over, all the talk was about AROD.

Lebron is leveraging his stature in the game right now to see how series these teams are. He basically called Miami out to make sure they either get a better team (which they got serious about by moving up to get Napier). But any other team he's interested in, and shares a mutual interest, will have to make some moves to get Lebron.

New York Knicks like Carmelo Anthony chances, eye Pau Gasol - ESPN New York

The New York Knicks are increasingly optimistic about their chances of re-signing star Carmelo Anthony even as he readies himself to talk to other teams next week, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Knicks officials, while not willing to trumpet it publicly with free agency fast approaching, are quietly confident about their odds of retaining Anthony thanks in part to the idea that new team president Phil Jackson and the high-scoring forward have "connected" to some degree.

[+] EnlargePau Gasol
Victor Decolongon/Getty ImagesKnicks president Phil Jackson is planning to make a determined attempt to try to recruit Pau Gasol, his former center with the Lakers, a source says.

Furthermore, one source close to the process told ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne that Jackson is planning to make a determined attempt to try to recruit his former Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol to replace the freshly traded Tyson Chandler alongside Anthony on the Knicks' front line, despite the fact New York is limited to offering Gasol less than $4 million for next season.

Time will tell if the Knicks' internal confidence in retaining Anthony proves justified, given that he opted out of the final year of his contract at $23.3 million -- with Jackson urging him to opt in -- and will soon be courted face-to-face by a handful of top teams in big cities.

The 30-year-old officially becomes an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday at 12:01 a.m. and, as ESPN.com reported earlier this week, is planning to go on visits or hold meetings with the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers all before the Fourth of July. It also must be noted as July 1 draws near that the Bulls and Rockets have likewise been radiating no shortage of positivity about their chances of stealing Anthony away from the Knicks.

The Miami Heat are likewise expected to have Anthony's ear if they choose to formally jump into the race, thanks to the close relationship between LeBron James and the Knicks' star, sources say. But Heat president Pat Riley -- after confirming a recent ESPN.com report that Miami has Anthony on its radar despite the challenges it faces just to get James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all re-signed -- has acknowledged that growing the Heat's Big Three into a Big Four is a "pipe dream."

Sources told ESPN.com this week that the Knicks swung their trade with the Mavericks to send out Chandler and the out-of-favor Raymond Felton to bring back a clutch of veterans in return -- headlined by point guard Jose Calderón -- in their belief that Anthony would relish the prospect of playing with the Spaniard. Calderon has been a perimeter threat and a beloved teammate everywhere he's played.

Jackson, though, was guarded Thursday in his public comments about the Knicks' chances of retaining Anthony, with New York hamstrung in what it can to do to upgrade the roster around him until it has significant salary-cap space in the summer of 2015.

"It's a big question because there are so many things that can happen out there," Jackson said. "We really don't know. With LeBron getting in this free agency ... we don't know what all that means. But we have every confidence that Carmelo is good for what his word is, that he wants to be in New York, he likes playing in New York, he wants to compete, he wants to be part of a playoff team that is competitive toward a championship."

Sources nonetheless insist that the Knicks feel far better about their chances than Jackson is letting on. No team can match the five years and $129 million that New York can provide if it wishes to offer a maximum contract to Anthony, and while Anthony is undoubtedly intrigued by the chance to team with Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and coach Tom Thibodeau in Chicago, he also still loves the Madison Square Garden stage dearly.

Amid speculation that the Knicks are reluctant to offer a max deal to Anthony, Jackson said: "We haven't come to that. But the perception is we want Carmelo to be as interested in winning. When saying he's competitive and wants to be on a competitive team to also being able to demonstrate that if push comes to shove in a situation where he may have to take a little bit less and we're more competitive to bring in another player to help us bring this concept along."

Anthony can receive a maximum of $95.9 million over four seasons if he decides to leave. Jackson has refused to address whether he will consider doing a sign-and-trade if Anthony opts to leave, but he did insist that the Knicks improved their chemistry Wednesday by shedding Chandler and Felton in the Dallas deal and contends that the trade sends "a message to all of our players that we are on the move and we are making changes."

As ESPN.com reported earlier this week, sources say Chicago has been plotting its free-agent pursuit of Anthony all the way back to the January trade of Luol Deng, while Houston on Wednesday night struck a deal to trade center Omer Asik to New Orleans in the first major step toward clearing enough salary-cap space to pursue Anthony or James. The Rockets have been telling teams for weeks that they have a subsequent trade lined up to move out guard Jeremy Lin if a marquee free agent verbally commits to Houston.

Chandler, for his part, thinks his return to the Mavericks will enhance Dallas' pitch to Anthony greatly.

"[Anthony] wants to win and he wants to be in a system and he wants to be in a culture," Chandler said this week. "I think that's going to go into a big part of his decision-making.

"I'm going to do whatever I can to help the team and the organization. At the end of the day, free agency is kind of an individual thing ... But I'll tell you one thing: Dallas isn't a bad place to be; it's a great opportunity and clearly we've done it in the past. It's not a hard place to sell. I'm going to do whatever it takes."

looks like MIA is done lol Wade Bosh opted out
Dwyane Wade tells Miami Heat he will test free agency - ESPN

Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem are joining teammate LeBron James in opting out of their contracts with the Miami Heat, creating an NBA-record $55 million in salary cap room.

Agent Henry Thomas, who represents all three players, told ESPN he spoke with Heat president Pat Riley on Saturday to inform him of Wade and Haslem's choices.

Bosh, meanwhile, has not officially informed the Heat of his decision, but sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that he will follow suit by Monday's midnight ET deadline.

AP Photo/Wilfredo LeeUdonis Haslem, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are following LeBron James and opting out of their contracts with the Heat.

"Dwyane has been the cornerstone of our organization for over a decade, and we hope he remains a part of the HEAT family for life," Riley said in a statement. "Udonis has been the heartbeat of this team for 11 years. He has sacrificed countless times to make this organization successful, and he is the epitome of what this organization stands for. We look forward to meeting with Dwyane and Udonis and their agent in the coming days to discuss our future together."

Wade will opt out of two years and $41.8 million, Bosh will opt out of two years and $42.6 million, and Haslem will not exercise his player option of $4.6 million.

Bosh will head into free agency willing to accept a pay cut from the $20 million he was owed next year, sources said. Haslem is looking for a multiyear deal that will assure him more guaranteed money than what he originally was owed next season but is also willing to take a pay cut, according to a source.

If Wade and James are willing to accept reductions in pay as well, the Heat potentially would be able to open a salary slot to add another player. The team is known to be interested in Toronto Raptors free agent point guard Kyle Lowry.

The Heat also have been in trade talks involving Norris Cole in the wake of drafting point guard Shabazz Napier on Thursday night, with the goal of clearing Cole's $2 million salary off the books.

The flurry of opt-outs to create cap room also makes the Heat eligible to use the $2.5 million room exception in a separate deal to add a role player.

Wade and Bosh came to the decision to opt out of their contracts following a meeting with James on Wednesday in Miami.

The three have collaborated on their contracts dating to 2006, when they all decided to pass on five-year contracts to sign three-year deals with separate teams, setting them up to be free agents together in 2010. That year, they all worked together to sign deals that enabled them to hit the open market again this summer.

In recent days, teams that have hoped to schedule pitch meetings with James once the free-agency period begins next week have been unable to do so, sources told ESPN.com.

Jason Kidd granted permission to speak with Milwaukee Bucks after being denied promotion by Brooklyn Nets - ESPN New York

Jason Kidd's future as coach of the Brooklyn Nets is uncertain after a reported attempt to gain more power within the organization led to the team granting him permission to interview with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to sources close to the process.

Sources have confirmed a New York Post report that Kidd, after a successful debut season upon making the difficult jump from player to coach, recently approached ownership with a request to have personnel control in addition to his coaching duties. Nets ownership, however, rebuffed Kidd.

Jason Kidd
Joe Camporeale/USA TODAY SportsJason Kidd's request to head the Nets' basketball operations in addition to his coaching responsibilities was denied by the team.

The Bucks then asked for and were granted permission to speak to Kidd about hiring him away from Brooklyn, sources said.

Sources close to the situation said the Bucks and Nets already have begun discussing possible compensation to release Kidd from the final three years of his original four-year, $10.5 million contract.

"I don't think Kidd will be back," a source said Saturday night.

New Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry is known to be close with Kidd after stints as a Nets minority owner and as the former All-Star point guard's financial adviser. Lasry and Wes Edens, two New York investment firm executives, bought the team for about $550 million earlier this year.

Bucks coach Larry Drew, who guided the team to an NBA-worst 15-67 record in his first season, and Milwaukee's front office were unaware Kidd was about to interview for their jobs, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Sources told ESPN.com on Saturday night that the name of former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson has come up internally as a potential candidate to replace Kidd if he indeed leaves the Nets. Jackson was ousted by the Warriors in May after his own flap with ownership and famously defended Kidd's decision to demote highly paid lead assistant Lawrence Frank.

Jackson currently is an NBA analyst for ESPN.

In addition, NBA coaching sources say the Nets are also interested in veterans Lionel Hollins and George Karl, another ESPN analyst.

Sources described general manager Billy King's relationship with Kidd as strained. Sources said King suggested a coaching change in December as the Nets were in the midst of a 10-21 start to the season. However, Russian ownership stuck with Kidd as veterans like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce continued to staunchly support the first-time head coach.

Kidd could not be immediately reached for comment.

Kidd's rocky start to his first year as head coach included the demotion of Frank following a falling out between the two. However, Kidd was able to turn around the Nets and finish his first regular season with a 44-38 record. He also earned Eastern Conference Coach of the Month honors twice.

After losing in five games to the Miami Heat in the second round of the playoffs, Kidd talked to ownership about a dual role. He is entering the second year of his contract.

By comparison, Steve Kerr and Derek Fisher, both new coaches without any previous coaching experience, recently signed five-year deals worth $25 million each with the Warriors and Knicks, respectively.

Kidd's uncertain future casts a cloud over the Nets as free agency begins Tuesday. The Nets hope to re-sign Pierce and Shaun Livingston, both staunch Kidd supporters.

Also, it remains to be seen how Kidd's uncertainty affects Garnett's decision to return for a final season with the Nets. Garnett has given indications of coming back and is planning to begin preparations for the upcoming season starting next month.
