what do yall think? do we pay for our sins in the afterlife, or pay for'em right here on earth?

im catholic so im supposed to believe in hell and all that, but i think that we pay for our sins here on earth not in hell, cuz i got plenty of homies that have done lots of dirt, and are paying for it here on earth, and their lives are a living hell, so i see no need for consequences in the afterlife, because those people are already suffering for they sins....

HUH? IF YOU BELIEVE IN HELL THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT THE ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT IS GOING TO HELL. THE PAIN OF THIS WORLD DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE SPENDING ETERNITY IN HELL. IF YOU THINK WE PAY FOR OUR SINS HERE ON EARTH WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE?!? YOU RECEIVE A CLEAN SLATE AND GO TO HEAVEN CAUSE YOU SUFFERED HERE ON EARTH??? YOU GO TO HELL BUT YOU DON'T SUFFER BECAUSE YOU ALREADY PAID FOR YOUR SINS IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE??? NONE OF THAT MAKES SENSE.

so people are supposed to believe that we are going to heaven or hell for eternity(1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 and then some) years just for what we have done in our average 70 yr lives?

The Muslim, born in the UAE, who has heard little to nothing of Christianity in his life, will burn and scorch in hell for all eternity. The man molested by a priest who decides to disown Christianity will write in agony for all eternity. The mentally deficient man who mumbles on a street corner talking to a milk bottle, will burn in hell for all eternity, since he did not accept Jeebus into his heart.

But if u think about it, This is all in theory now, God forsake that mentally deficient man when he made him, Cause if hes the almighty being he would know that this man wouldnt be able to accept religon into his heart, thus he doomed him to a life of burning in hell. I tried to explain this to some mormen or jehova or some bible thumper who came to my door once. He walked away helling i was gonna burn in hell.

You can mock Christianity all you want (and the Christian idea that you cannot enter heaven unless you have "accepted Christ"), but you would be that much more effective if you had an equal amount of the Quran to mock. But instead you would rather play the "stupid Christians" game. Indeed, your sarcasm could be so much more wiley if you really applied yourself.

Am I aware that most monotheistic religions claim to be the "only way"? Yes. Am I aware that there are idiosyncracies in every religion that are worth a laugh? Yes. But what we see daily in America is not idiot Buddhists, idiot Zoroastrianists, or idiot Muslims...we see idiot Christians, the spearhead of which being the Conservative Republican movement.

Reincarnation....
I THOUGHT SINCE YOU WERE A CATHOLIC MY POST WOULD MAKE MORE SINCE TO YOU BUT I GUESS NOT. I'VE NEVER MET A CATHOLIC WHO DIDN'T BELIEVE IN HELL. I'VE NEVER MET A CATHOLIC WHO DIDN'T BELIEVE HELL WAS THE ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT. I'VE NEVER MET A CATHOLIC WHO BELIEVED IN REINCARNATION. IN THE SENSE OF A SINFUL MAN BEING RAISED FROM THE DEAD. ??

I'M NOT TRYIN' TO BE A SMART ASS WHEN I SAY THIS BUT YOU SOUND KINDA CONFUSED AS TO WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN. I WAS KINDA TRIPPIN' AT FIRST CAUSE I DIDN'T SEE WHY YOU WOULD ASK A QUESTION LIKE THAT BEING CATHOLIC BUT I SEE WHY NOW.

I was gonna say something quite similar to this. I'm a Roman Catholic and I believe in hell on earth, but I also believe Hell in the afterlife is the ultimate punishment. You can only pay for so much here on earth...but if you don't cleanse your soul, you will go to hell. Funny thing is, I've been to church like, 3 times in my life...all 3 times I was already set in my ways, almost into adulthood, but I have ALWAYS believed this way...don't ask me why cause I've never read the bible and I was never in church as a child, so I don't know.

But yea, if you sin, but are too scary to ask for forgiveness, hell is where you go. I also believe in Purgatory. So, to answer the initial question, I believe you can go to 3 places depending on your situation and how you lived. Hell if you're awful and not forgiven, heaven if you are a good person or a person who made bad choices who has been forgiven, or Purgatory...where you are stuck inbetween the two, on earth. Depending on how you handle Purgatory, you could go in either direction. That is where you are given the chance to finish whatever you need to, repent (or do penitence)...but you should always do Penitence BEFORE you pass away, so you won't get put into that situation.

@Sydal
Weren't you Atheist not too long ago? Or am I thinking of someone else?
@The topic
My logic leads me to believe the following.
1) If there is no hell or at the very least a cosmic force of judgement and punishment then we are free to do whatever we want regardless of morality.
2) Since we are free to do what we want those who complain are hypocrites because it is only natural we do this and nature cannot be fought.
3) Evolution/"Survival of the Fittest" gives those who can be evil not only a reason to be evil but also encouragement. So the evil and oppresive goverments of the world are justified in doing what they wish.

Anyone not having some sense of "hell" or payment for sins/bad deeds and yet complains about the world's problems and/or the evil in this world is a hypocrite.
