^^^ it brought the open world for the first time with such good graphics and that amazed everyone. Ive always thought GTA 3 was the best one, all the ones newer just have new things you can do, none of them are/were groundbreaking like GTA 3
You are right about GTA bringing for the first time such good graphics that amazed everyone, but there is no way in hell GTA3 is the best one its not like the movies where shit is usually better when it first comes out than sequels.

In Video games shit progresses and gets better, I enjoyed all em myself but I could enjoy Vice City more because of motorcycles and other extra shit like casinos and different scenery. Then it progressed to San Andreas with a deeper plot and storyline with RPG elements and more fun extra stuff.

LOL you remind me of a homie that don't like upgrading to new games. Like when Gears of War 2 came out, he said it sucked because it had more buttons and it was implementing new strategies that he couldn't adapt too. Learning new stuff hurt that fooz head I guess.

The Idea of sandbox games was out there with Activision's old PC game Hunter for the Commodore Amida in 1991..

but GTA 3 was the first to get it right on a next gen console and its programming. The physics in a 3d World with a modern engine, everyone copied that formula which makes it easier for people to be more creative with sandbox games now. It set the standard for awesome sandbox games to come for the new generation.

FAIL! not for what you said, but on the list selecting GTA 3 if it was for what you said...that's cool and all, but in no way groundbreaking.

15. Portal (2007)

This senior thesis cum sleeper hit showed that students could hit it big in the games business — not after years of obscurity but immediately. But the space-bending puzzles of Portal will also have an influence on the way games are sold. Valve could have padded out the four hours of gameplay with extraneous cut scenes or boss battles, but instead it let the game be concise (and a bargain at $20). Portal proved that quality can trump quantity. –Daniel Feit
