^^in hindsight though that proved to be a bad move. If he would have just stood there and let him get back up like you say Silva does, that would have been the smart thing to do.
But at the time it looked like he was going to finish him by ground & pound so it's one of those split second decisions that turned out in the end to be the wrong one.

Something that got overshadowed was how impressive Cung Le's fight was. I mean he was kicking the shit out of Smith the first time, but last night was an entirely different fight and he fought perfectly. Smith had a good gameplan by bumrushing him since no one's ever really come forward at Le, and Le weathered it and then used his hands to keep Smith from coming forward and once Smith started keeping his distance Le started opening up with his kicks that ended the fight. And his post fight speech was awesome "I didn't eat pizza or chocolate for 7 weeks. My trainers have a box of cookies for me backstage.... AND I'M GONNA EAT 'EM ALL!!!!!"
Hopefully it gives him that drive he needs to take a step up in competition and he'll actually enter the 185 title tournament.

lol.. i know you're trying to give fedor a compliment (& insult silva @ the same time) ..but the way i'm reading it, it looks like you're saying silva is the more intelligent fighter. cuz the way fedor got caught last night was slightly foolish..
maybe he got caught up in trying to send a message to overeem, whose fight with rogers was way more dominant & who had been calling for a match with fedor..

One thing that I think Fedor fell victim to ( even him saying he relied on himself to much ) and what alot of MMA fighters do is when there striking improves they start to rely on that a little to much.
Look at his last 3 fights, he KO's Rogers, Arlovski, and even though he sub'd Sylvia he rocked him with quite a few punches prior to that. Like many others have posted on here, he thought that he had Werdum hurt and went in for the kill, while the Fedor of old would have taken more caution and not put himself in that position.
This is his first true loss and he will learn from it, I look forward to his next fight.

^^^ lol i know that shit. honestly, i like both fighters. i dont see any shame in getting caught in a submission. it can happen again to fedor, no doubt. so i dont think that says much about who is better.. IMO getting KO'd is much worse.
EDIT: dont get me wrong, i am in no way discrediting the importance or power of the submission in MMA. silva was vulnerable to that. we dont know if he is these days. the only way to determine who is better is to have them fight eachother. anything else is nothing more than guess-work.

The difference is Brock was DESTROYING Mir until he slipped up and got caught.
The rematch was no difference, total domination.
