WWE Friday Night SmackDown Report
Report by Dan Walton
3rd October 2008; Green Bay, Wisconsin

A brand new opening video package with a new theme song is played. A fireworks display then goes off – it is SmackDown’s debut on MyNetworkTV. Many superstars from all three brands are here tonight and will compete.

Tonight: WWE Champion Triple H vs. ECW Champion Matt Hardy vs. World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho.

We have ourselves a huge tri-branded 8-Man Tag Team Match to kick off the show.

(MATCH 1) 8-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH: JEFF HARDY, REY MYSTERIO, FINLAY & BATISTA VS. MVP, JBL, THE BRIAN KENDRICK & KANE

Kendrick and Finlay start the match. Finlay with an Atomic Drop and shoulder block, makes the tag to Batista. Batista rams his shoulders into Kendrick and then hits a suplex. Finlay back in and hits a European uppercut and traps Kendrick in the ring apron. MVP tries to stop him but Hornswoggle is thrown into him for his troubles. We return to see Mysterio in the ring hitting quick moves on Kendrick, Kane and Mysterio stare each other down. Hardy tags in and hits a Double Axe Handle on Kendrick. Finlay back in but Kendrick hits a dropkick and a high side kick. Hornswoggle is seen wearing Kendrick’s jacket, Kendrick chases him outside the ring but gets caught by Finlay. Ezekiel then clotheslines Finlay.

JBL tags in and goes on the offensive on Finlay, hitting elbow drops and tags in Kane. Kane hits aggressive moves in the corner and tags in MVP. Typical heel team advantage on Finlay, JBL hits a big clothesline before Finlay executes a big DDT. JBL tags in MVP when Finlay hot tags Batista. Batista lays out everyone and hits a spear on Kane, a spinebuster on MVP. Batista goes for the Batista Bomb but Kendrick gets a back drop. Batista with a running spinebuster and then an assisted splash from Mysterio on MVP. Mysterio goes for the 619 on both MVP and Kendrick but Kane pulls him from the ring and lays him out.

We return to see Kane hit a low dropkick on Mysterio. More heel team advantage until Mysterio hot tags Hardy and Kendrick tags MVP. Hardy goes for the Twist Of Fate but hits The Whisper In The Wind. JBL takes out Hardy, Batista takes out JBL, Kendrick takes out Batista, Finlay takes out Kendrick, Kane takes out Finlay and Mysterio with a missile dropkick on Kane. Mysterio with the 619 on MVP and then Hardy hits the Swanton giving his team the win. Good match to start.

Winners: Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Finlay & Batista

Backstage; Teddy Long, Mike Adamle and Tiffany in Vickie Guerrero’s office. Big Show comes in and orders them to get out of HIS office when Tiffany asks how Vickie is. Chavo comes in and says that they need a plan, Big Show blames Chavo for Vickie’s absence and says that he has a match tonight.

Santino Marella comes to the ring and gets on the mic; he brings up the Honk-A-Meter and he’s been IC Champion for 6.71 weeks. He says that he will beat the “Goldilocks” Shelton Benjamin tonight, and brings up the geographical differences of their respective titles.

(MATCH 2) INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION SANTINO MARELLA VS. UNITED STATES CHAMPION SHELTON BENJAMIN

Benjamin hits a big kick early on and goes on a very aggressive offensive (that’s a mouthful) and hits the Pay Dirt what looks to be. R-Truth then appears in the crowd and his music plays. He does his typical “What’s Up!” line, Benjamin throws Santino in the corner and stares at R-Truth on the turnbuckle. Santino hits a powerbomb for the win. R-Truth is on the stage and just simply says: “What’s Up” once more.

Winner: Santino Marella

A video package highlighting the Big Show/Vickie/Undertaker feud is shown and another package highlighting their match at No Mercy.

Big Show comes to the ring and gets on the mic. Big Show says to Vickie that he has everything under control and is sorry for Chavo’s actions last week. Big Show says he has a special match for Chavo to make Vickie feel better. The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry……AND The Great Khali

(MATCH 3) HANDICAP MATCH: CHAVO GUERRERO VS. MARK HENRY & THE GREAT KHALI

Squash! Match ends with the Khali Vise Grip.

Winners: Mark Henry & The Great Khali

After the match, Big Show nails Chavo with a vicious right hand on the outside. He gets back on the mic and says that Undertaker had better be watching because he will do the same to Undertaker at No Mercy. GONG! Big Show climbs out of the ring and Undertaker appears in the ring. The two stare at each other as we go to a commercial break.

In the ring; Team Priceless and Manu! (Excuse the exclamation, I really like these guys – DiBiase is going to be HUGE one day!)

(MATCH 4) 6-MAN TAG TEAM MATCH: WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS TEAM PRICELESS & MANU VS. WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE COLONS & CM PUNK

Before the match CM Punk slaps Cody Rhodes. Good match between the 6 men, quite fast paced action but nothing too special. Match ends when Punk hits the GTS on DiBiase.

Winners: CM Punk & The Colons

This week’s “From The Vault” Match……………Rey Mysterio vs. JBL from No Mercy 2005. JBL wins as I’m sure you know

The next match is a Diva Lumberjill match with another Champion vs. Champion match.

(MATCH 5) DIVAS CHAMPION MICHELLE MCCOOL VS. WOMEN’S CHAMPION BETH PHOENIX

Typical Beth Phoenix match here, nothing overly special to report. Maryse was a constant nuisance to McCool, Phoenix hits the Glam Slam for the win.

Winner: Beth Phoenix

Later tonight: Triple H vs. Chris Jericho vs. Matt Hardy

A video package highlighting the recent events between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels is shown. JR and Tazz hype the rest of the No Mercy card.

(MATCH 6) TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: ECW CHAMPION MATT HARDY VS. WWE CHAMPION TRIPLE H VS. WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION CHRIS JERICHO

Jericho slaps Hardy and Hardy clocks Jericho in the mouth, HHH and Hardy double team Jericho for a while – Hardy hits a suplex and HHH a knee drop. Hardy throws Jericho into the ring post and HHH nails Hardy with a DDT. HHH with an apron suplex on Jericho for a near fall. Jericho hits a running clothesline and goes on the offensive on HH for a bit. HHH hits a Harley Race high knee and Hardy attacks HHH on the outside. Jericho hits a springboard dropkick taking both Hardy and HHH down to the floor.

We return to see Hardy attempt a Twist Of Fate but gets countered and sent to the outside. Jericho with mudhole stomps on HHH in the corner. HHH with a heavy spinebuster on Jericho in the middle of the ring. HHH goes for the Pedigree, Jericho counters into a catapult sending Hardy crashing from the turnbuckle. HHH gets sent outside the ring, Jericho attempts a superplex but HHH gets underneath Jericho in a powerbomb and they hit the TNA-Style move.

HHH locks in a sleeper hold on Jericho but Jericho counters with a back body drop. Jericho goes for a Lionsault but hurts his knee when coming down, Jericho locks in the Walls Of Jericho on HHH. Hardy attempts to thwart Jericho but Jericho counters, Hardy then gets a small package for a two-count. Hardy hits a bulldog for another near fall. Jericho goes for the Codebreaker and Hardy locks in a bridge for another two-count. Hardy hits a Side Effect on Jericho but HHH hits Hardy with The Pedigree for the win.

Winner: Triple H

After the match, Jericho nails HHH with The Codebreaker. He goes under the ring and brings out a ladder. He nails Hardy in the head with the ladder, and he attempts to sandwish Matt in between the ladder but Jeff comes and rescues his brother from Jericho. HHH gets up and looks at Jeff, Jeff turns around and nails HHH with a Twist Of Fate! Jeff sets up the ladder when Vladimir Kozlov comes to the ring. Jeff tries to splash Kozlov but gets a vicious headbutt, Kozlov then hits his finisher on HHH. Kozlov then stands tall in the ring as the show comes to a close.
