With the recent Pac vs Bradley madness, you can't deny that judging needs to be examined. If you say "What about Pac vs Marquez" you can throw that in the mix as well. My point is that maybe former boxers should be the ones judging fights. It should be boxers not afiliated with this company or that company, but boxers that have an interest in cleaning up the sport, protecting the integrity of the sport and making sure that winners win and losers lose. Think of it as a "judged by a jury of your own peers" type of thing, were the judges are known, not some 70 year old one foot in the grave, just applied for a license no one knows who the fuck you are type of judge.

ETA: There should also be OSDT for ALL fights.

I SEE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING BUT HOW BIG OF A DIFFERENCE IS IT BETWEEN 3 70 YEAR OLD MEN AND 3 MEN WHO TOOK PUNCHES TO THE HEAD FOR A LIVING??
Well, you're given a test anyway when you apply for the license, but I'd trust the 3 men who took punches to the head for a living. The reason being is they probably still understand the sport and, this is important, what it means to win a fight. Former trainers, former boxers, former cornermen, these are the people who should be judging the fights.

Look at all the boxers that still have their senses and reflexes. There are a lot of them, and they should be the ones doing the scoring. Yeah the state controls the shit, but it shouldn't be on the state and athletic commision.

lol I don't have a hate bone in my body, I respect the sport of boxing and watch fights very closely(im zoned inn). Bradley outboxed Manny and won that fight! I gave him 7 rounds, the first 3 and last 4 he rolled his ankle in the middle rounds when Manny came on strong and took over when he got his second wind. go watch those rounds closely with the volume down because that biased ass HBO crew was horrible!!!

nah cuz a lot of fighters favor particular styles, most likely their own style. For example big George Foreman when he was on HBO ALWAYS favored the big punchers, he always thought they were winning or still in the fight even if they were getting schooled, i.e Hopkins vs Trinidad (the entire fight he kept saying stuff like "hopkins is slowing down, his legs are gone!" "Hopkins better be careful Trinidad is just getting started" etc the entire time Hopkins was beating the shit out of Tito).

There needs to be a central boxing commission that regulates it's referees and judges. It's as simple as that. There needs to be a more clearly defined scoring system, proper and regular training for the judges by a centralized, non-biased commission.

If a fighter lands 6 clean jabs, but then gets hit with a hard right cross, who got the better of that exchange? Out of everyone that posts here, if this were a real life situation, we'd get a bunch of different answers. There's a flaw in the system. I don't want it to be like olympic style scoring but there's obviously an issue here

or have them judge the fight watching it from a television in a closed booth or something. We as the viewers on tv have the benefit of instant replay, punch states and several camera angles. Why is that a bad thing for a judge to see?
because it takes way from boxing, that would be like telling an MLB home plate umpire to call the game from a suite where he can use technology(replay, strike zone sensors) to call the strike zone and make calls.

So no technology and get messed up scorecards? Like the one that has enraged people all over the place? Like the Campillo/Cloud fight that screwed a guy that clearly won the fight and cost him a title and bigger paydays?

This isn't baseball. One strikeout doesn't kill someone's career, but one b.s. decision can permanently damage a fighters career. Sometimes all you get is one shot on a televised fight in this game. I'd err on the side of giving the fighters the best opportunity to get the decisions right than having a ton of bad decisions like the one that drove who knows how many fans away like the fight this weekend.

lif something changes it would have to be done very carefully and tested before implementing. good intentions can often lead to some worse. take Olympic boxing for example. it was changed because of Roy Jones being robbed. the end result is now Olympic boxing is weak and almost unwatchable besides the most hardcore fans.

look at open scoring, something that in theory sounds great but in practice we've seen it ruin fights that would have been good.

that's why I think something subtle, not too drastic like simply adding more judges. all it takes is two bad judges to ruin a fight. if there were like 11 judges it would decrease the chances of bad decisions a great deal.

Do you any of you remember a fight sometime around 2004, or maybe 2005 in which clearly the decision was wrong and like 6-8 months later there was a report that an investigation revealed corruption in the judging? I can only remember vague details about this fight, but maybe someone here remembers it more clearly. It was a PPV fight and I am pretty sure it was in Vegas.

Trips, I'm not just talking about the Bradley Pac fight. You see I also mentioned Pacs last fight. Did you watch Campillo vs Cloud? Clouds MOTHER passed out right in the ring when he was announced as the winner. You know you lost when your momma passes out after you got beat, lol.

I didn't say you had to be a fighter to judge a fight properly. Reading comprehension trips, stick with it and you'll learn something one day.

And what bias did the judges in Campillo/Cloud have? What bias did the judges in Pac and Bradley or Pac and JMM have? You can't get inside someones brain, I understand that, but my thing is maybe people with experience, your peers, should be judging the fights.

I don't know man, I just don't like seeing the sport taking a black eye and think something should be done about it. The peds, the shade tree niggas like Arum, crooked judges the shit goes on. Yeah it's probably in every sport, but still.

well I just think you'd be replacing one bias for another. Maybe you could mix them up, have two fighters and three regular judges, something like that. But whatever it is I'm standing firm on my belief more judges is the answer.

yep, exactly. And people like to call me a nutthugger or whatever but Tavoris Cloud is one of my favorite fighters, I'm constantly bigging him up but after the fight I was so outraged by that BS decision I sent an email to the commission and left a voice mail as well. Robberies are robberies.
