The Detroit Police Department has released remarkable surveillance footage of the shootout that took place inside a Northwest precinct on Jan. 23. The shocking and disturbing video shows officers battling for their lives as the gunman unexpectedly opened fire on officers working at their desk.

The video, shot from two different angles, shows suspect Lamar Moore calmly walk into the station and approach the desk, before opening on fire the officers who were working there.

Two officers begin returning fire before Moore leaps over the counter to attack them again. Moore (who was using a shotgun) and Cmdr. Brian Davis then exchange gunshots from point blank range, before Moore is mortally wounded. Davis was shot twice and three other officers were wounded, but all are recovering.

The video begins with a brief statement from Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, explaining the decision to release the clip.

Detroit police: Precinct shooter sexually assaulted teen girl

January 30, 2011|From Susan Candiotti and Ross Levitt, CNN

Before a man went on a shooting rampage inside a Detroit police station, he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl who escaped hours before the police attack, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Lamar Deshea Moore, 38, who was mortally wounded by police, wounded four officers January 23.

Police say Moore kidnapped the runaway girl about 10 days before, police Sgt. Eren Stephens told CNN.

"The assault case is closed," said the spokeswoman. "She was kidnapped, held hostage, sexually assaulted and escaped."

Moore's motive for the attack is not known. He had a relative who was scheduled to be sentenced for double homicide, Police Chief Ralph Godbee said last week.

Moore held the girl against her will in the basement of his home, said Stephens, adding the victim also was handcuffed to a toilet. The unidentified girl escaped in her underwear hours before Moore's attack, police said.

"She was still wearing the handcuffs" when she rushed to a neighborhood resident who contacted police, Stephens said.

Investigators say police had surrounded Moore's empty house while they were waiting for a search warrant to enter the home. At the same time, Moore walked into the precinct and started his shooting rampage, they said.

Police say they have interviewed Moore's fiancee, but wouldn't comment further Sunday.

Police released a graphic surveillance video on Friday that shows the gunman identified as Moore indiscriminately firing inside the police precinct and lunging across a counter with a shotgun.

Godbee said his department released the 68-second video to show the "tremendous acts of heroism" of officers and to be transparent in its investigation.

The video does not show all those involved in the incident, Godbee told reporters. "We are thankful to God that all four members who were injured are going to be OK," he said.

The footage provides two angles of the station and a large semicircular counter. Officers are shown talking with each other behind the counter before the gunman approaches and opens fire.

A shoe repairman also was in the station, police said.

Several officers crouch and return fire with handguns. After a barrage of rounds, Moore, clad in a jacket, leaps over the counter and continues the gunfire.

He and a seriously wounded officer exchange rounds at point-blank range, before he circles around the table and collapses, mortally wounded. The gunman apparently ran out of ammunition, Logan said.

The home where Moore was staying caught fire early last Tuesday and was heavily damaged, police said. Detroit Fire Capt. Kwaku Atara told CNN the fire had been ruled arson.

I still grinned while reading the first post, regardless what he did all cops deserve this wake up call. They want to ruin our lives then they deserve the same back. What he did was more reasonable than the woodcarver being gunned down just for crossing the street..

b.s.! there's no proof this 13 year old girl even exists. whenever there's a shootout with the cops, they say the perp was a child molestor. it's obvious the cops lie to get people to sympathize with them. think about it, lovelle mixon in oakland, maurice clemmons in seattle, and now this fellow from detroit. they were all child molestors? what are the odds?

with Maurice Clemmons and this detroit guy, the allegations were made before they did what they did. They didn't just come out of nowhere.

The guys house was being raided right before he shot up the police station, they were investigating the kidnapping and rape allegations. With Clemmons he was in jail several months before hand for child rape. I dont know about the other guy.

It doesn't seem that odd that a child rapist wouldn't want to go to prison and would rather die. It is kind of odd however that the detroit guys house burned down. Whatever way you look at it, a full scale police department conspiracy and cover up seems less likely than a family cover-up.

Maurice Clemmons

Prior to his alleged involvement in the shooting, Clemmons had at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington.[2] His first incarceration began in 1989, at age 17. Facing sentences totaling 108 years in prison, the burglary sentences were reduced in 2000 by Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee to 47 years, which made him immediately eligible for parole. The Arkansas Parole Board unanimously moved to release him in 2000.

Clemmons was subsequently arrested on other charges and was jailed several times. In the months prior to the Parkland shooting, he was in jail on charges of assaulting a police officer and raping a child. One week prior to the Parkland shooting, he was released from jail after posting a $150,000 bail bond.

Lovelle Mixon

Mixon had an extensive criminal history. Beginning at age 13, he was arrested multiple times for battery,[10] and by age 20 he began serving a Corcoran state prison sentence following a felony conviction for assault with a deadly weapon during an armed robbery in San Francisco. After he was paroled, Mixon was in and out of prison. At the time of his assault on the officers, he was living in East Oakland at his grandmother's house and was wanted on a no-bail arrest warrant for violating his current parole conditions. On March 20, 2009, the day prior to the police shootings, Oakland police learned that Mixon was linked by DNA to the February 5, 2009 rape of a 12-year-old girl who was dragged off the street at gunpoint in the East Oakland neighborhood where Mixon's sister lived. On May 4, 2009 a state laboratory confirmed this link and also said Mixon had robbed and raped two young women on the morning of March 21, 2009, the same day he murdered four police officers. Investigators said that Mixon may have committed several other rapes during recent months, although no convictions had been secured before his death.[11][12] If Mixon had been arrested for his parole violation, he would have faced at most six months in prison; if convicted of rape, he faced a life sentence.

Mixon had also been the primary suspect in a previous murder case, however due to lack of evidence he had been charged only with lesser violations: possession of drug paraphernalia, forgery, identity theft, attempted grand theft, and receiving stolen property.[13][14][15]
yea sorry, with these two guys, facing what they were facing, what the police say makes sense

in the detroit shooters case he either 1) came home and saw his house being raided, and flee'd before he was detected or 2) someone called him and told him his house was being raided. all he had was the clothes on his back. i highly doubt he traveled with an arsenal with him. i dont know where the shotgun came from, maybe he bought it at walmart after he knew his life was over. maybe he traveled with it in his car.

at any rate this wasn't something he was able to just casually plan, its what happened when he was backed into a corner and saw no where else to go. also what you are talking about is military issued thousands of dollars worth of gear. you cant just buy shit like that.

IF THAT WAS ME I WOULD HAVE DROPPED A 30,000 POUND BUNKER BUSTING BOMB ON THE POLICE STATION, THEN ROLLED AROUND THE CITY WITH A TANK, AND SHOT OFF A NUCLEAR MISSILE AS I ESCAPED IN A TRIDENT SUBMARINE!
