SEATTLE TO HOST INTERNATIONAL HIP-HOP SUMMIT & EXPO
“Think global. Act local.”

SEATTLE, WA – March 31, 2003 - Some of the biggest
names in Hip-Hop will gather in Seattle June 6-7 for
the first annual Seattle International Hip-Hop Summit
& Expo.

This historical event will bring together artists,
political activists, industry executives and insiders
to address the growing international influence of
Hip-Hop and the developing northwest urban music
scene.

The keynote address will be given by Hip-Hop Summit
Action Network (HSAN) co-founders, Russell Simmons and
Dr. Benjamin Chavis-Muhammad. Other planned
attractions include:

• Hip-Hop Marketplace & Resource Fair
• Urban Technology & Gaming Exhibition
• Panels & Workshops
• Urban Fashion Show
• Hip-Hop Film Festival
• New Artist Showcase
• Benefit Concert

Recognizing Hip-Hop as a global force, the Seattle
Summit and Expo will be the first Hip-Hop summit to
feature an international focus.

“Seattle is an international city,” Chavis-Muhammad
said. “The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network is
enthusiastic about the potential to identify Seattle
as a emerging hub of Hip-Hop culture.”

Event organizer K. Wyking added, “In this time of
world unrest, more than ever,” he said. “We must
realize the power of Hip-Hop as a vehicle for positive
change and continue to link with and build the
builders across the planet.”

Previous HSAN events have been attended by top names
in the music world including Sean “P. Diddy” Combs,
Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, Suge Knight, Master P, Busta
Rhymes, LL Cool J, Chuck D, Nas, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys,
Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Jermaine Dupri, Rep. Maxine
Waters, Martin Luther King III, Kwesi Mfume, Davey D
and a host of other celebrities, politicians and
activists.

Entertainment mogul Russell Simmons founded the
Hip-Hop Summit Action Network in 2001. Over the past
two years the HSAN has brought together major hip hop
artists, music industry executives, youth and
community leaders to address the positive utilization
of Hip-Hop for community empowerment. These Hip-Hop
summits have attracted thousands of youth in cities
across the nation including New York, Los Angeles,
Dallas, Atlanta and now Seattle.

The Seattle Hip-Hop Summit Action Network is actively
seeking corporate partners for this groundbreaking
event. Partners can choose from a variety of
sponsorship packages ranging from individual event
sponsorship to exclusive title sponsorship. By
becoming a corporate partner, companies will establish
a greater presence in the urban Hip-Hop market segment
while demonstrating commitment to supporting positive
youth development.
