The San Diego Chargers Community Foundation has given more than $400,000 in grants, scholarships and laptop computers to 11 county schools and 17 high school students.
The foundation's Chargers Champions grants, announced last week, go to campuses to develop fitness and nutrition programs and to students who have shown leadership.

For example, three schools received $40,000: Cajon Valley Community Day School in El Cajon for outdoor fitness equipment; Granger Junior High School in National City for a fitness center; and Taft Middle School in Serra Mesa for a sports center.

The students each will receive a $7,000 scholarship for college and a new laptop computer, donated by Sony. Many students will be the first in their family to attend college.

They are: Anagelu Ali of Hoover High; Andres Cornejo of Guajome Park Academy; Emily Harrison of El Cajon Valley High; Bozhou Huang of Mt. Carmel High; Lourd Kettoola of Granite Hills High; Savannah Lake of Torrey Pines High; Ricardo Lopez of Orange Glen High; James Monroe of San Pasqual Academy;
