Rap singer and accused killer Michael Goldsby was shot and killed early Tuesday during an argument in the street near his home, police said.
Goldsby, 30, of 366 Buchanan St., who with his brothers performed as "Thugged Out," a local rap music group, was pronounced dead at Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus shortly after he was wounded.

Detective Sgt. Anthony Titus said someone at the scene drove Goldsby to the hospital after the shooting.

He said he had leads on a suspect and expected to obtain charges but declined further comment pending the outcome of the investigation.

Goldsby, the 13th person killed in the city this month, was considered a suspect in a previous slaying, investigators said.

He was charged in March 1997 with the shooting death of Alejandro Moreno; in August 2003 charged with biting Patrolman Darrian Donald and in March 2005, charged with felony battery for allegedly assaulting his 3-year-old son in a drunken rampage.

In an interview posted on murderdog.com, Goldsby's brother, Jeffrey "Bullet Boy" Goldsby said their music encouraged young people to avoid crime.

"We tell them that whatever you do it's gonna come back to you. If it's good it's gonna come back to you, if it's wrong it's gonna come back to you. Regardless, so we know all the consequences, all the repercussions of when you do crimes. That's why we try to put it out in our lyrics," he said.

On the interview page, the trio is featured in a color photograph holding semiautomatic weapons.

Titus said anyone with information about the shooting can call him at 881-7438
