about a sample, you can try to find a part on one of your favorite cds/records where there's an isolated event when the bass hits. Or try to filter the bass out. There's a grip of other ways to find/make bass along with any kind of sound.
With the TS404, I can't help you out too much, it's been a very long time since I last played with fruityloops. Basically just try moving the knobs around and have it play notes for you and listen to how the knobs change the sound. Then create the sound that you like best.
