Yeah, I still say 400 dollars for the system itself. 100 dollars for the harddrive itself.
They could sell together for 500, or I could see the system being 500, but no more than that. Didn't that areticle say it'll cost right now, $800 to make a system without harddrive. So, at 500, that'll be a 300 dollar loss per system. But, they said in two years, it'll be down to about 300 dollars per system, which will be a 200 dollar profit per system. And, then later it'll cost even less money per system to make. Plus, Sony has said they want the PS3 to last 10 years, instead of 5, so, it'll end up profitable, or even, and that's all they want. They are looking for Blu-Ray to become a big thing.
And, honestly.. If you're looking for a blu-ray player, you can either pay 1,800 dollars for a standalone blu-ray player, or you could pay 500 dollars for the PS3... Which are you gonna choose. Plus, the fact that Blu-Ray comes with PS3 will make it a top choice.. Something that HD-DVD doesn't have the luxury of having, because who is honestly gonna buy the HD-DVD add-on for there 360 for an extra 300 or whatever they'll be selling it for.
Sony has it thought out. But, honestly, I could care less whether they make or lose money on the system as long as they don't go out of business. And, as long as they keep on releasing sweet games.
