Let’s be clear this is not about health and safety this is about power, control and money. Both federal and state governments will wrap this argument up in the “we know best and we are going to protect you from your stupid choices,” while citizens will claim that it is about freedom and the right to choose for themselves and their family.

Whether it is state government or the federal government the issues is the same with only one exception, states have the constitutional right to regulate this behavior but the federal government does not. With that said the states are wrong which will become obvious when you see who supports this control over your life but that is for the citizens of the state to work out with their state legislatures but the issue is still the same power, control and money.

On one side we have large corporations who stand to lose large sums of money if people are allowed to be free to choose and they are protected by politicians and bureaucrats that either are true believers in “I am doing this to protect you” or they are enamored with their own power. On the other side we have small business and individuals who are standing up and saying we have the right “to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” or I can make my own choices without your interference or guidance. This issue goes to the heart of freedom and our relationship with government, for if the government can dictate something which is so fundamental to our very existence, then we are “free” in name only.

What issue am I referring too, raw milk or in a broader sense the right to consume the foods we want without interference from government, but as stated earlier it really IS about freedom. Now, I am probably like most of you in that I have never consumed raw milk, in fact I drink milk very infrequently, but that again is not the real issue. Freedom from government interference in our lives is the issue. Our country was founded on the principal that we had inalienable (absolute, unchangeable, undisputable, undeniable) rights that were given to us by God (or if you prefer by nature) and we are sovereign (have final authority) in our own lives.

Do you think our founders who were hacking out a country from the wilderness and had just defeated the world’s greatest military power led by a King who had ridden roughshod over their rights were about to establish a government that would control their lives down to the smallest detail? Again, it’s not about milk it is about power, our founders would never have given such power to the federal government.

James Madison, Federalist Papers #45
“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government, are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite.

The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected.

The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”

So, how is it that a power magically appears in the Constitution giving the federal government the ability to establish the FDA and to regulate what you can eat or drink? Because government at all levels never ceases in its quest for more power and control especially when it thinks that “…it is the exclusive judge of the extent of the powers delegated to it,” and it will “… stop nothing short of despotism – since the discretion of those who administer the government, and not the Constitution, would be the measure of their powers. “

But to the question at hand, raw milk prohibition, the answer lies in who supports this perceived power which is easy enough to see when one looks at who lobbies for this government control? In a recent article Rep. Bradley Revives Raw Milk Debate the line was clearly drawn by Glenn Jernigan, a lobbyist for the Carolina Virginia Dairy Products Association and Monsanto who said “the opportunity is not worth the risk.” He went on to say, “I know we all like individual rights and individual privileges and individual choices … but this is an issue that could seriously affect the health of North Carolinians, and it’s not an issue that should be taken lightly.”

Oh, so “we all like individual rights and individual privileges and individual choices” but we elites know best so sit down and shut up so we can protect you. He went on to threaten legislators by listing all the groups that were ready to step up and defend the government’s position and who would go after any legislator that tried to change the status quo:

The Carolina Virginia Dairy Products Association
The North Carolina Dairy Producers Association
The North Carolina Farm Bureau
The North Carolina State Grange
The Agriculture Alliance of North Carolina
The state’s health director
The North Carolina Association of Local Health Directors
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration

You will notice the list seems to be filled with either government agencies or quasi government agencies or people who stand to lose money if things are changed.

When the subject of people owning “cow shares” which would give them the opportunity to own the products produced by the cow by being part owners he stated, “Legalizing cow shares would be ‘devastating’ to North Carolina’s $600 million dairy-product industry.”

Again, follow the money.

Wisconsin Judge Patrick J. Fiedler ruled in a case about raw milk recently that, “no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to own and use a dairy cow or a dairy herd;”

“no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to consume the milk from their own cow;”

“no, Plaintiffs do not have a fundamental right to produce and consume the foods of their choice…”

In plain English the only way for you to have this right would be because government gave it to you.

I’m sure that was what our raw milk drinking freedom loving founders had in mind all along, don’t you?

Remember this is NOT about raw milk this is about control, power and money; when these laws are written and enforced who are the winners (government power and big business money) and who are the losers (individuals rights and freedoms and small farmers).

The question boils down to this who is in charge who decides what freedoms you have, you a sovereign individual with inalienable rights or the government you created; master or servant, employer or employee?

Your freedom is at stake, it is time to make a stand and join us in promoting the limited role of government by helping to pass Model Legislation that will restore the balance between We the People and the government we established.

Freedom is the ability to make money - hence power...

Redistribution is slavery.....

Anyone who has been to the joint knows nothing is free, yet some believe the government wants nothing for the social welfare. Oh they do - they want your freedom and your vote in exchange for peanuts..

Those who redistribute want your obedience (your freedom)....

At least under the capitalist model you have a choice and are rewarded via the skills you possess.
