I know why....

That fading in-n-out that you're experiencing is the dvd's built in anti-copying feature. Let me guess, you have the PS2 plugged into a vcr with the a/v cables, right? If your tv has a/v jacks, then plug it directly into your tv and your problem will be solved. If your tv does'nt have the a/v jacks, then you'll have to go to Wal-Mart and buy the RFU adaptor. I think it's about $20. Again, nothing is wrong wit your PS2(I think), it's just the way you have it hooked-up for watching dvds. Some dvds do this when they are hooked up to a unit that is capable of recording to discourage you from making bootleg copies. Aight den, PEACE OUT!

Sounds like you have your ps2 hooked up to the vcr's rca plugs. You'll have to connect it straight to the tv's rca plugs. It does that cuz of that macrovision bullshit to keep peeps from dubbing a dvd to vhs.

Either than that, there are some movies it doesn't play right. You can upgrade the dvd driver by buying the official sony ps2 controller.

Here's a list of compitable dvds, it hasnt been updated in a while though...

Hope that helps a bit homie.

^^^^^Compatibility question^^^^^

A Krazy Klown, I just peeped out that dvd compatibility link you posted, and I got a question. On the compatibility grid if the space beneth a certain drivers column is blank, does that mean that the dvd plays on that driver with no problems? If thats the case, it seems that the 1.30 driver is better than the 2.10 driver. Is this correct? Thanks. PEACE OUT!

Ya if it has a blank space that means there's no problems. From the movies I've played on the ps2, I've had no problems at all. ( I've never updated my shit, bought mine when it first dropped.) It all depends on what driver you want to go with. The new one might fix some shit, but it can also cause it to mess up playback on movies that at one time played fine. Don't really know the whole deal on that. On another note, I'd suggest you have your ps2 standing vertically. They say it prevents the disc read errors, for example, if you have an older ps2, and after playing it alot it won't read the blue bottom ps2 discs which are cdroms and not dvds.

Here's a better compat. list

Ok now I bought the adapter so it goes thru my tv...(since my tv is an old fucker and doesn't have rca plugs) Now the fuckin audio isn't high quality, and the picture is dark. I tried to change the brightness and all that stuff but...nothin different.

@ Krazy Klown- Thanks for the info holmes! I think I'll stand mine up....

@Cantankerous- Yeah, I knew the audio would be degraded a little, because the RFU adaptor is'nt stereo. If the volume is just low, there is an on-screen menu you can pull up and raise the dvd volume(check your owners manual)....Is just the dvd playback dark(videowise), or are the games dark too? Is it steady dark, or is it still going light and dark????...I don't know bro; you may just have to bite the bullet and buy a new tv if you can(make sure it's got A/V jacks!). Sorry for recommending you buy the RFU adaptor, if you're not happy with it, but it does come in handy(I got one) for when you travel. If you bought it at Wal-Mart and kept your receipt, they should give you a refund, if you don't want it. Just tell them your mom bought it for you, but you have the X-Box, and your little brother opened the package before you got home. Aight den, good luck on your quest for dvd playback on your PS2. PEACE OUT!
