For the first time in Japanese cinema history, Shochiku Co., Ltd. is making a public offering to fund the next Shinobi movie, to star Yuki Megumi, in her first period piece film, slated for 2005. The studio is targeting movie addicts and the general public for this movie fund. The lowest amount you can invest is 100,000 yen per unit/share (about $915.50 US dollars). Investors will reap returns/profits after the cost of production, advertising and marketing of the film. There is a level of risk to the investor. The movie has to make money for a return on the investment, but that includes box office receipts and future video sales.
Investors' benefits include: invitation to a special screening of the film; a special limited DVD; movie poster; extra promotional goodies like t-shirt, cap and towel; and a special DVD with the investor's name inscribed. Shochiku Co., Ltd. guarantees completion of the movie and theatrical release. If these conditions aren't met, investors will be reimbursed in full.
