Thanks Tony, that reminded me of the awesome Lennox Lewis pre-fight breakdown of the hopkins-calzaghe fight, "Well, the thing you have to keep in mind is, both guys have come to fight. Neither guy wants to lose, so they are going to give it their all. I expect to see lots of punches thrown, some landing, some missing- but overall, just a real fight. Both guys are going to try and hurt the other. It's going to be good and, at the end of the night, one guy is going to come out the victor."

full of wisdom.
lmao that reminds me of john madden. "to win the game you have to score points and to score points you need to get the ball in the end zone."

^ LMAO! Both of those quotes are sheer genius.

Thought this was cool...BJ Penn and Frank Mir both inspired by the Pac Man.

Frank Mir said:
“It’s something we’ve been saying the whole training camp. We call it “The Pacquiao,” because Manny Pacquiao will step off as a southpaw and throw the overhand left. As soon as I hit Kongo I went to catch him with the uppercut and I didn’t see him, he was on the ground.”

Morebass, you broke it down pretty well and at least you acknowledged that Mayweather makes the necessary adjustments during the fight very well. Noone really has a clue how this is gonna play out and folks can call Mayweather a defensive fighter but really hes a great counter puncher and we all seen how Manny has had problems with Marquez cuz Marquez is a very good counter puncher. I just dont think Manny is prepared for what Mayweather will throw at him and Manny will be confused when he cant land punches so easy.

Yeah, Manny's head is going to be snapping back because Mayweather is going to be pot shotting him with stiff jabs. He's going to have to find a way through Mayweather's jab and lead right hands and once he does that and then bam, counter left hook..... down goes Manny, down goes Manny!!

I'm going on the record now to say Pacquiao by Split decision. Which will set up a highly anticipated rematch about 6 months later.

I've put a lot of thought into this and while mayweather will have his moments, manny's workrate and punches in bunches from all angles are eventually going to get Floyd in some trouble, and the judges will favor manny's aggression over floyd's pot shotting.

Castillo would have got a decision over floyd if he was the more popular fighter. Right now, unfortunately for floyd, the tables have turned.

I think Floyd is going to surprise folks and throw combinations since Manny/Freddy Roach is expecting Floyd to pot shot his way to victory. This is Floyd's biggest fight, he can't lose it. I think it's going to be a close hard fight to score but in the end, Floyd's accuracy and effective punches landed will win him the fight.

ROACH: We'll try to catch Mayweather early, if he survives it's Pacquiao by UD

Freddie Roach wants Timothy Bradley as one of Pacquiao's sparring partners

By Granville Ampong

HOLLYWOOD, California, December 21, 2009 - Less than three months before the hottest boxing campaign hits the mark, both camps of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have yet to issue official statement as to the finality of the match and its first official press conference.

But, Freddie Roach makes his own list of rated top-A sparring partners for his pupil.

"Other than Amir Khan as Pacquiao's main sparring partner, I like to include Timothy Bradley in my list."

Bradley, 26, is rated No. 1 in the light welterweight division. Like Mayweather, Jr., Bradley bears an orthodox stance at 5' 6" and remains undefeated with twenty-six wins.

Roach says both Khan, former sparring partner of Pacquiao, and Bradley will make the best of Pacquiao for a Mayweather fight.

"And I have the keys to break down Mayweather even in the earlier rounds." Roach says in a telephone interview with this writer last Friday. "Mayweather will have no more excuses; We'll catch him early, if not it's going to be Pacquiao by unanimous decision."

"Pacquiao will strike on at unexpected angles that Mayweather will become frozen from taking too many shots." Roach adds.

Meanwhile, amid a difficiult economy and a wave of lay-offs, boxing fans' enthusiasm continues to spread like a brush fire, eagerly anticipating the fight between two acclaimed pound-for-pound gladiators to take place.

One fan says: "I am not making a good paycheck from my unemployment benefit . But, I am starting to set aside enough dollars for the Mayweather-Pacquiao match."

Report from Top Rank officials has it that the MGM Grand Arena is likely the venue of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao definitely this March 13, 2009.

Expert: Pacquiao could 'disjoint' Mayweather's shoulder roll

MANILA, Philippines -- An orthopedic surgeon is claiming that 7-time world champ Manny Pacquiao can smash his way through Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s “shoulder roll” defense with his power punches.

In fact, boxing and martial arts enthusiast Dr. Art Lee said, Pacquiao could even “disarticulate” or disjoint Mayweather’s shoulder roll at 147 pounds.

"Pacquiao can break that defense and his power shots can disarticulate Mayweather's infamous shoulder-rolling defense," said Lee in a report by the MaharlikanTimes.com.

Mayweather, who remains unbeaten in 40 fights because of his exceptional defense, heavily relies on his shoulder rolls to repel punches during fights.

The shoulder roll defense involves dropping one’s front arm to protect the body while keeping the chin protected by the shoulder, which will be used to ward off the incoming punches to the head.

Lee, however, said that this might not work against Pacquiao, who agreed to fight Mayweather at 147-pounds.

"Pacquiao should be much stronger and devastating at the pre-fight weight of 147 than he was at a catch-weight of 145," said Lee.

And a stronger Pacquiao means bad news to Mayweather’s shoulder.

Pacquiao, who recently won a seventh title from Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto, has already compiled 50 wins against 3 losses and 2 draws. His 38-knockout record speaks much about his punching power.

"I believe he is too powerful, too fast and too sleek for Mayweather, Jr. at this stage of his improvement," said Lee.

Pacquiao-Mayweather is seen as a battle between two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world today.

Although the fight has yet to be announced, promoters are looking at a March 13, 2010 fight date. The fight purse is reportedly $50 million up front, at a US venue yet to be decided.

lol @ mollywhopping a bunch of over the hill mexicans and a joke in Hatton and a clearly flawed fighter in Cotto, he sure didnt mollywhop Marquez and Marquez won that 2nd fight in most boxing experts eyes. We all know what happened when Mayweather faced Marquez. Are you prepared for Manny to be the one that looks like a joke when Mayweather gets through with him??? At least Mayweather is a fighter, i cant stand trainers that wont shut there mouth. Hes not the one that has to fight so of course hes not worried about whatever comes out his mouth

lol @ mollywhopping a bunch of over the hill mexicans
Barrera was 28 years old the first time he lost to Pacquiao
Morales was 29 years old the first time he lost to Pacquiao

and a joke in Hatton
Pacquiao KO 2 Hatton
Mayweather TKO 10 Hatton

and a clearly flawed fighter in Cotto
Cotto ws 34-1 going into the fight with the best resume out of any Welterweight. Floyd NEVER fought one single welterweight as good as Cotto.

he sure didnt mollywhop Marquez and Marquez won that 2nd fight in most boxing experts eyes. We all know what happened when Mayweather faced Marquez.
Styles make fights, you should know that. Plus marquez went up 2 weight classes to see Floyd and marquez struggled even at 135 pounds. Whereas Pacquiao has filled into his welterweight body quite nicely.

Look at the difference in body mass:

And if you want to bring up the past lets not forget the "majority of the boxing world" thought Castillo beat Mayweather the first time.

Are you prepared for Manny to be the one that looks like a joke when Mayweather gets through with him???
Mayweather in theory should be able to out-box pacquiao. But on the flipside, are you prepared to see Floyd lose for the first time as a pro?

At least Mayweather is a fighter, i cant stand trainers that wont shut there mouth.
Roger Mayweather & Floyd Mayweather sr. don't know how to shut their mouths either, and apparently, Roger doesn't know how to keep his hands to himself neither cuz he's going to jail very soon for assaulting that girl. We'll see if he's locked up for the Pac fight or not.

LAS VEGAS -- The proposed megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was thrown into jeopardy Tuesday with a demand by Mayweather's camp that both fighters be subjected to Olympic-type drug testing in the weeks leading up to the bout.

Mayweather's manager said the fight would not go on if Pacquiao didn't agree to blood testing under standards followed by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

"There is no fight without Olympic-style random drug testing," Leonard Ellerbe said.

Mayweather's camp claims it was told Pacquiao would not agree to have his blood tested within 30 days of the fight because of personal superstitions. But Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said he could live with some testing, as long as it wasn't too close to the fight and wasn't overly intrusive.

"I will not let my fighter take a blood test the day before a fight," Roach said. "If they give me a five-day window or something like that I have no problem with it."

Roach said he hoped the issue wasn't brought up as a way to get Mayweather out of the fight.

"He's looking for a back door out," Roach said. "We're eager to fight."

The fight, which promises to be the richest ever, had widely been expected to be formalized this week, with an official announcement Jan. 6. It was expected to be held at the MGM Grand hotel, with the biggest live gate ever.

But neither fighter has signed formal contracts and there have been disputes between representatives of the two fighters ever since Mayweather's promoter pulled out at the last minute of a trip to Texas, where Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was to make a proposal to host the bout.

But Mayweather's promoter, Richard Schaefer, said all other issues have been agreed upon.

"The good news is we have agreed on all the other points," Schaefer said. "Depending on what Manny Pacquiao decides to do, we either have a fight or we don't have a fight."

Schaefer said he is still hopeful of the fight happening, based on the fact Pacquiao himself has not publicly said he would not accept blood testing.

"I am still hopeful because I really believe this decision didn't come from Manny Pacquiao, it came from somebody else," Schaefer said. "It's up to Manny Pacquiao to prove me right or wrong."

Pacquiao has never failed a post-fight urine test in Nevada, including his last fight when he stopped Miguel Cotto. Mayweather also has passed urine tests in the state after his fights.

Fighters, though, are not routinely tested before bouts for performance-enhancing drugs, and there are no blood tests done for those drugs.

Mayweather's father, Floyd Sr., said after the Cotto fight that he suspected Pacquiao was using performance-enhancing drugs to move up and win titles in so many weight classes. Ellerbe did not make that claim, but said that for a fight of such magnitude fans deserve to be confident neither fighter is cheating.

"If it's good enough for LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps and Lance Armstrong why isn't it good enough for Manny Pacquiao?" Ellerbe asked. "The fans and sports deserve a level playing field."

Travis Tygart, executive director of the USADA, said he had talked to representatives of both fighters about providing testing. Tygart said he welcomed the request as he would for any sport that does not have stringent Olympic-type testing.

"I think every sport that wants to have clean athletes it's a sign of a step forward to have out of competition testing," Tygart said. "It's an essential thing to do if you want to protect the integrity of the sport. Clean athletes want a level playing field."

Tygart noted Olympic athletes are tested often and without notice. He said less than a teaspoon of blood is removed out of an average of 380 teaspoons in the normal human and that it regenerates within an hour of being withdrawn.

Blood tests, he said, can find things urine tests can't, like the use of human growth hormone, synthetic hemoglobin or blood transfusions, all of which "certainly would aid in an endurance-type event."

Ellerbe said he couldn't imagine why Pacquiao wouldn't agree, especially considering both fighters would likely make more than $25 million for the bout.

"Only Manny Pacquiao can answer that question," Ellerbe said. "The ball is in his court."
